The first area of the game after the tutorial (land of the giants or whatever) kicked my ass, enemies combo'd my shit into oblivion, had to get used to the new movement mechanics and I only had 1 estus flask.

After I got to the prison it became pretty easy.

souls games are always atleast 40% multiplayer shenanigans and if you play them offline and singleplayer you're missing out on a significant amount of the experience

but what about people that DON'T want to do that? you didn't have to get online to get something as basic as your full health bar back in ds1, it made it a lot more attractive because you could play both single and multiplayer without feeling pressured to play one or the other.

plus you only get the item if you help someone kill a boss, so no pvp which is the most attractive part of multiplayer.

Forest of Giants is the only area in the game that's legitimately bullshit. The Hollows with shields block while attacking, even when their shields aren't raised, and the ones with 2-handed swords swing faster than daggers and hit for well over half your health at that point.
