Immersive games. Name some, please, before I fucking die jesus christ

Hi Todd!
The Witness
SOMA.
The game was leagues above Amnesia. I genuinely kept forgetting I was even playing a horror game because the world was so interesting and well done. Not saying the plot is the DEEPEST SHIT but you have to give them points for actually taking a theme and making an entire gameworld just to discuss it. And, in general, given it's a video game, it's pretty high up there when compared to its competitions in terms of writing.
>>385431790
Does it have good graphics?
>>385431880
Not high end anymore at this point, but I'd say they're good enough to be immersive nonetheless. I played it last month and it being two years old didn't bother me it at least.
Metro 2033 is hella immersive.

>The game was leagues above Amnesia.
I have to disagree. I felt it was less scary than Amnesia, mostly because there was someone with you almost the whole time. In Amnesia, you're on your own throughout the whole game (except for the part with the dude tied to the wall). There are also a few moments in SOMA when you are not in control of the character, which is something the developers of Amnesia said was a no-no.
I really liked SOMA, but overall I have to say Amnesia is better.
>>385431790
I tried to enjoy that game and some other similar ones but I'm just physically unable to find any fun while I'm forced to hide in a corner because it's supposed to be a horror game. Makes zero sense to me, I'd play the shit out of these games if it wasn't for this.
>>385432080
I found SOMA scarier too. I suppose the presence of another character can take away some of the atmosphere for some, but I felt like it added more than it took away, if only in terms of plot stuff. Whenever they were around, you knew no real shit was going to go down, and a few times they abused that feeling of safety at least I developed.
That, and I think the fact that there were multiple types of enemies made it better for me. In Amnesia, towards the end, the game mechanics were pushing through my immersion whenever I was faced with the enemies. I was too familiar with how they acted and they were lines of code more than they were monsters at that point.

It's hit or miss, really. I can completely see why some people would hate games like the Frictional horror games or similar games like Outlast. I'd say it really boils down to the immersion OP is looking for too. If you can't get into them, you'll just be looking at them through the lens of the game mechanics and feel more frustrated than scared.

Killer7 if you can stomach the oddball quality.
I couldn't stop playing despite how weird the game is.
>>385431790
>>385432780
Penumbra ep1 & 2 are miles above both Amnesia AND SOMA shit.
>>385433182
I loved them back then too but I have to say the combat segments were terrible. Maybe it was my own fault but I actually just killed anything I could kill once I realized I could do that. I used to really hate dog enemies with passion because of some personal childhood experiences. And the spiders were more annoying than spoopy.
They're certainly worth playing still but I wouldn't put them above either. I did love the setting back then, though, but then SOMA beat that too even though I'm not much of a scififag at all.
>>385428426
Immersion is a meme. Comes from you. Not the game.
>>385433438
>Maybe it was my own fault but I actually just killed anything I could kill once I realized I could do that.
yeah. I didn't even attempt that, and fortunately they completely removed fighting in Black Plague.
It's funny how many people mention the spiders; you do know thatthey're afraid of light?
It annoys me to no end how Frictional just keeps streamlining and cutting corners with each new game they release.

>>385434943
Darkness 1 is just so much better and varied, their version of hell is so much better, the story is fucking elder god tier. 2's pacing is really wonky by the end, plus that cliffhanger. Though gameplay is better by a mile, just not as many options as the first one.
>>385429970
Unironically this, I don't steal cars unless I absolutely have to and just walk around and it's comfy as hell. Did this till Niko moved to Bohan.
