4 main reasons

1. These critics rate thes games as if an child is playing it. So they go why easier on the game because they know that children dont care as much.

2. Community pressure. Most people will tell you the best game ever is OOT or super mario. To criticize a "classic series" is to pretty much shit on every game in that series. The community will write you off as a bad critic instead of an honest one.

3. Nostalgia. A lot of critic grew up playing Nintendo games. They want to keep the magic of their childhood going and really can't admit to them selfs that these games have become bad or stale.

But most Kirby games, which Nintendo has said are actually designed to be played by children, struggle to get above a mid 80

There are many Mario games that have gotten mediocre scores. Even in the Op there's a Zelda game in the 70s. Lets not forget Starfox Zero, a classic franchise that bombed.

Considering the price people have to pay for the games, that IS a bonus. If anything, they should see an even lower score for bad games.

The moral of the story is that number scores for any type of media are stupid, because taste cannot be conveyed into factual contemporary rating systems, as the personal bias of each individual varies drastically from person to person. Reviews are just smart people taking advantage of dumb people, leading them to believe you can actually attribute a number to media, and then make money out of us with add revenue.In reality, even "shitty" games like ET had some fans, so how shitty can a game really be if someone else can have an opinion that totally contradicts yours?
