Kenny did absolutely nothing wrong in S1 or S2. When you first meet him he offers you a ride and from there everything he says or does is to protect his family/the group. Leaving the motel, being suspicious of the farm, killing that ragemonster before he got someone killed. Hell, even if you don't side with him for most of the game he'll still come with you to get Clem if Lee asks, because he knows it's the right thing to do regardless of how he feels. Kenny even goes down into a walker infested alley to save that shithead Ben, the kid who got his wife and son killed, because if he didn't do it no one would. The second he shows up in S2 I was revealed, everyone else in that season was a colossal fuckup that should've died day fucking 1. He gives up any hope of safety and wanders out into the snowy wilderness to make sure two children are safe and taken care of. Kenny is nothing short of a hero. He may be unhinged and have a serious anger problem, but everything Kenny goes up against does nothing but reinforce that and he's constantly forced into bad situations that only exacerbate those character flaws.

S2 Kenny was Telltale's way of asking 'so did you actually play the first game?'
Everyone is so one-sidedly against Kenny in every single situation in order to demonise him. But because you know he's your nigga, you stick with him as he makes literally every right decision all the way towards the best ending of the game as well as the least shit opener for S3

This, I don't get why Telltale thought I'd forget that those chucklefucks locked a hurt little girl in a shed and were gonna leave her there overnight with walkers around just because they were scared. Every time one of them died I just crossed their name off the list, it's a real shame that you can't make sure all of them bite it.

He was a test for players who played the first game. Kenny is opinionated and goes through bouts of emotional despair but he is always, always in the right by the end of things. So they painted him as a guy going insane from loss in 2. New players bought into it and got the bad ending, people who played through the first title knew to remain true to Kenny.
