Basically can't get through that desert mission where you have to kill the huge tank's generators before reinforcements. Because I don't have the Eidelweiss extra armor penetration I always end up just getting fucked up the ass by Selvaria's thick dick of whatever that weapon she's using is. Also I think I need another lancer.

I liked it. Shame Sega killed the franchise by putting the sequels on the PSP, and then putting the final nail in the coffin by rebooting the series into a hack and slash game literally nobody asked for despite the remaster version doing well enough that they even commented on it.

Fucking lame ass game. Glad it's dead.

It's alright. It's one of the few games where I genuinely think it gets far more praise than it deserves and I'm not even sure why. The presentation and setting is pretty unique, but there's nothing special about the story itself and none of the characters are particularly interesting either. It doesn't quite go overboard on the dumb anime stuff, but when it does pop up it feels really out of place.

The gameplay ranges between incredibly broken or horribly slow. The way a lot of the maps are set up you're at a complete disadvantage unless you know about certain objectives beforehand. It's not even a matter of adapting or getting good, because the battles themselves aren't actually difficult aside from one or two (the final showdown against Jaeger comes to mind), but they're laid out in a way where they become really tedious because you slowly have to crawl your forward. Not in a slow and steady strategical way either. The game just isn't balanced that well and Scouts are the only class that isn't very situational with or without abusing battle Orders. Especially if you want to get the highest rank on stages you're more or less forced to Scout rush because of how the scoring system works.

But it alright. I found it good for at least one playthrough, but it didn't make me want to play any of the sequels despite hearing that 3 I think improved the balance somewhat.

Shocktroopers become a lot better in the endgame once you have access to their flamethrower, far better than scouts even. If you're just playing the game normally and not cheesing the fuck out of it with level 20 scouts and lancers then shocktroopers are pretty essential.

Using your awaken potential order on Alicia for normal missions or using it on lancers with anti armor and extra shot against tank bosses. Alicia can basically get an extra turn when she depletes her stamina bar, plus she has passive damage resist and a full heal after doing an action. Lancers on the other hand start sniping the fuck out of tanks at endgame, with Extra Shot you can chain cycle through your rockets and have infinite ammo.

That doesn't mean Shocktroopers are useless though, in terms of "cheesing" they're still the best when it comes to dealing with human bosses, specifically Selvaria and the final boss.
