It should've been more similar to the Half-Life series in terms of the flow. In linear single player games like this, the whole experience should be continuous from start to finish with no time jumps and cutscenes that take away control from the player. It's okay if the player character loses consciousness or something similar, but it's not okay to have a cutscene where the player character jumps into a chopper for a ride back to the base with the control relinquished to the player once it lands.
It also should've had more physical interaction with the world, like physics puzzles and such.
