It takes too long to find a goddamn match holy shit that's annoying as shit. A major appeal of fighting games is that you can jump in and jump out whenever and have a complete experience as long as you played for like 2 minutes. Somehow fighting games forgot how to make lobbies accessible and others chose to go with broken matchmaking.

This. Why are SFV fans so butthurt by Tekken making a comeback? Who really cares. You Capcom fans defended SFV during its shitty launch and now you can keep defending it, don't worry, no one will take your game from you, Street Fighter will always have a playerbase.

Speaking as an SF that tired to dabble in pretty much every other fighting game that gets released I don't get it, the games an objective step down in terms of content compared to previous Tekken and the gameplay is janky bullshit compared to Virtua fighter

I don't know man, not sure where you get the idea of janky bullshit. Let's break it down, the majority of Tekken moves would be considered "normals" in other games so there's stuff like -

Pokes
Strings
Launches
10, 12, 14 frame punishes
Counterhits that cause the opponent to crumble which = combo time
Rage arts
Unblockables
Armor, low and high crush
Reversals, throws
10 hit combos
And now we have projectile characters

Maybe you lack a basic knowledge of the game and it bothers you for some reason?

I'll make no bones about being a fucking scrub in Tekken but I'm pretty good at SF, it's a shallow as fuck complaint but the way the combos look in Tekken with the bouncy is just fucking stupid and the game feels more like it just wants nothing but high execution touch of death combos and dancing around until you get the opening for them than it wants fundamentals, also rage arts are stupid as fuck one of the best things about Sf5 was ditching the fucking ultra's from 4.

You never see rage arts at higher levels of play. Hell when you get to blue ranks people stop spamming them.

Rage drive is a great new mechanic though.

It's not Soul Calibur.
Tekken has always been the least loved IP among the fans no matter how hard Namco suffers from favorite child mentality. Tekken characters just aren't as endearing and when all you have is functions you might as well play the game with more players even if it's not your favorite franchise.

Not making an excuse for load times, but as someone who does hours of ranked at a time I can appreciate a 45 second breather to analyze my opponent and generally catch my breath before throwing down again. I've seen players, myself included, completely transform skill-wise between matches and I don't think that would be as easy if it was 15 seconds. In games with better load times I intentionally stall the rematch timer for this very reason. If I lost the first match, I usually win the second off this method. If I won, I ready up immediately and hope my opponent doesn't take the same luxury so I can get my easy 2-0 and leave.

I honestly thought to the as I typed the post. I think Punk being so young and headstrong really blinded him to some of the more methodical and nuanced methods competitors use to remain composed in tournament. Punk is so good already he never went through this adjustment phase in his tourney experience, and it took a veteran like Tokido to finally knock him down to Earth and make him realize there's a game being played outside the game as well, and Punk was ignoring it.
