All I know is that all of the games files they were working on got leaked to the internet.

Guy in charge was naive and hired an artist without securing the rights to the work he produced. Artist decided he'd had enough and forbade them from using it. The artist then re-purposed it for his own game.

It was never gonna work regardless because nothing was being done.

Had nothing to be with being leaked. Just the fact that it was another "Notch" situation. Got money, got lazy, fucked off. Diminishing returns in terms of content, then it became beyond repair due to strained relations.

Developer(s) were taking forever actually making it. Meanwhile they also forgot to secure the rights to any of the art or assets made by the artist they hired. Said artist got fed up with the lack of progress, and secretly began using the art/assets on another similar project by a different team of people. He got found out, and took the art and left leaving the Breeding Season people without any means to finish the game.

it was beyond awful but the art was decent. the core game basically needed a complete overhaul in order to be any fun at all and that was never ever gonna fucking happen even if the art guy stayed.

From what I remember the scope of the project also grew far beyond what was actually achievable.
There was however many races including genderbent versions and primal versions you'd need a scene for them to have interactions with every other race/bent/primal and since they didn't use standardized animations where they'd be able to reuse assets it required custom shit for every single one.

Lesson to learn is to hire a project manager which is something they could've easily done with the money they were making through patreon.

I think they just made new art for Cloud Meadow which is a shame since I vastly prefer the Breeding Season fem-breeder to the Cloud Meadow one.
