PUBG has a very simplified ballistics and damage system compared to DayZ.

The map is much smaller, like 1/4th the size, and is much easier to get around in. On top of that, the circle pushes people together so it forces them by constantly making the map smaller, instead of DayZ which kept it's entire map accessable.

You actually had to really look to find good weapons and items in DayZ, PUBG nearly every house has an assault rifle and military grade equpitment.

No survival mechanics as well.

In short, it's an ultra casualized version of DayZ/ ARMA BR, so really is there any wonder why it's more popular? COD was always more popular than Battlefield, which was always more popular than ARMA for the same reasons. More people can get into very simple and rudimentary gameplay and mechanics than a game with much more complex, nuanced and intricate gameplay. It's Chess vs Checkers, and most people being casual players, are going to far prefer the simpler more casual one over the other.

PlayerUnknown was apparently the brains behind the ARMA 3 Battle Royale mod, and H1Z1's King of the Kill.

People enjoyed BR and it probably saved H1Z1 from the grave once they abandoned any pretense of being a survival game and pretty much just focused on being a BR game with a weird title that makes no sense now.

He decided that since Battle Royale games seemed to be the next big thing, got together with some Koreans and made PUBG.

He's worked a lot with ARMA so it's really no surprise it has a lot of notes taken from that playbook.

It's not just faster paced. Because DayZ already had that with several servers and mods where you could find guns everywhere and just go kill and kill and kill.
It's not just faster, but it's far more simple in terms of damage/health mechanics, weapons, ballistics, ect.

They don't seem similar mechanically, unless your using such broad strokes you could say Battlefield, ARMA and PUBG are all effectively interchangable mechanically.

I think it can be optimized, thankfully. Unreal Engine 4 is a good engine and the game just seems weird and clunky with its optimization, like there's some memory leak that can be patched up. I'm getting a different vibe from games that will literally never be optimized like 7 Days to Die, which ran like shit even at lowest setting and a five foot draw distance thanks partly tot he shitty engine it was made on.

The point is to get weapons and gear. It also makes every game unique since gear is randomized and you can start wherever you want. You can get an ak+x8 scope, lvl 2 bag and helmet, bullets, attachments and a sniper in your first two houses, just like you can find only a pistol and 15 bullets after 5 houses. Completely changes the way you approach every situation.

Why hasn't this happened to me in the last 18 hours? Get vehicles? Listen to where people are shooting from? Be sneaky? Don't run in the open? Get to the center before the sniper fag? Use smokes? Play with friends and surround the house where people are hiding? Ambush people crossing the bridge? What for two team to kill each other and finish off the last two surviving guys and loot all their gear?

And it's not like houses aren't drowning under gear. They should reduce the spawn rate of most weapons.

On PC maybe, but in the grand scheme of things when you include console, no fucking way. BF or COD on either Xbox or PS by itself is probably 2-4 times as popular as ARMA is on PC.

Survival would be about actually surviving the environment, having to make sure you've got food and water and can stay warm. Otherwise if your only qualification for a survival game is that you have to just make it to the end of round or match.

PUBG is a best seller because it just works. It doesn't bog you down with the useless stuff like in Rust, or preparations in H1Z1. You just need to loot and kill people. You're always on your toes because of the changing safe zone, and it's a very good game if you play in a group. If this game was solo-only, it would have already died like all the other DayZ clones out there.

You don't even need to play with friends, just form a group (even a pair works). Because you don't outright die most of the time (partners can revive each other), you get a second wind even if you die a bullshit death.

I don't even have friends (not memeing, really don't have friends), and I can have at least 5 good plays per day (out of 10).

Yea, people aren't SPECIFICALLY saying it's a masterpiece but they defend it like it is one. As if it has nothing wrong with it. There are enough posts in this thread (and on the board daily) of people padding the game's pros and ignoring the cons.

PUBG is fun, if they can actually polish the game and fix a bunch of seemingly easy to fix problems with the game it will only grow in popularity

The most important thing they have right now is the feeling of loss if you lose, the whole realism + feeling of pressure is really good.

Like when you make it to the final 10, everything gets really tense and you slowly work your way up and actually win it feels great, and coming real close but feels crushing.

I try to not overplay the game so when I do play it I still get that feeling of nervousness when I make it to the final few people and it always leaves me feeling an adrenaline rush and that's one of the few things I never really get from games.
