I am a Kawakami/Futaba fag. Makoto is the worst. Ann is simply the one that is the farthest to be canon.
Haru is the only one who was hoping you would be interested. For everyone else, if you say the friends option, they are just like "oh yeah, were friends. Thats cool." Haru looks rejected when you turn her down. She really was hoping you wanted something more. In addition, she asks you to leave immediately, probably because she couldn't hold it in for too long and needed to cry her heart out.

It never ceases to amaze me how people do not understand the anime tropes in a Japanese game full of them. When someone shows concern for a friend in anime it usually means romance and this game is heavily anime-based. Know your shit.

No, she exists to be the team know-it-all until Futaba shows up, then she's just there to react to things. The game has to awkwardly shove her into multiple pseudo-romantic situations with Joker just to distract the player from how annoying and cliched her character is. Futaba is similar. Ultimately the characters that the game doesn't have to force on you, particularly Ann and Haru, end up being much more likable.

In general the female characters all kinda suck, though. For whatever reason the game awkwardly juggles the female party members in and out of the spotlight throughout the game. Ann is irrelevant after Madarame and is replaced by Makoto who is irrelevant after Futaba shows up. Aside from technobabble Futaba is never important after her Palace and Haru is barely important at all, even when they decide to go after her dad. Hope they're able to shift things around in the inevitable remaster and balance things out, because it's really unnecessary. The same problems don't occur with the male party members, both Ryuji and Yusuke manage to stay relevant and funny through the entire game.

When the game came out people were to busy calling her a slut since they were probably on the first dungeon and jumped to conclusions without reading the dialogue in regards to her and Kamoshida's relationship. I'll admit even I was a Makotofag in the beginning and still kind of am, but Ann grew on me and I romanced her in my second playthrough.
