First 50 levels are rough story wise, but class diversity and the community are pretty good as long as you stay away from certain servers.

It's not bad, better than WoW but it doesn't have open world pvp, only instanced, and it's not very populated. Also the leveling experience suck for alt-classes. You get a lot of exp from story quests but after you finish the story it's harder to lvl up.
And you can't jump into endgame content right away. To get access to latest Extreme primals and Raids you need to complete ~410 story quests. I'm not joking.
Is story good? Will it's decent but generic in ARR, in HW it's really good(I'd say Haevensward is the only really good Final fantasy story-wise since 12.), but Stormblood... it's fucking garbage, really dumb.

If you going EU go Omega or Louisoix. Omega is the most populated but i heard it has long queue times and kinda hard to get into, you'll need to look for when it's open for new characters(late night usually).
Both Omega and Louisoix are new severs and have Exp buff till so it's easier to lvl up there. Also i heard they give you like 1kk gil and items for rare mount exchange if you lvl your character to lvl 30.

Servers are still using the original model from the games initial 1.0 release so that part isn't aging too well. The community is hit or miss and really depends on your server and Free Company (what they call guilds.) End game content comes in chunks so when you are max level be prepared for monotonous dailies and periods of just nothing really to do.

Skipping b4 sucks serious ass. You malign your foul timer, if you use 5 f4 you end up with the same mp issues as pre 4.05. Thunder 3 still costs 1900mp while foul is not always up in umbral for that rotation. That comes to the other issue of if you skip b4 and don't have foul up then all you can do is t3, even though half the time you need two casts to get all your mp back. Skipping b4 is not only a bad rotation, but also a broken one.

The only time to skip b4 is when there's a transition happening soon, like the susano sword, or exdeath's decisive battle.
