Eh in the series the weapons fits well with its pros and cons. Obviously the biggest balance would be the skill required to a actually use it since you have to be on point with your dodges while still never letting go of the DPS on the monster to actually make a difference in the hunting. Not to mention it doesn't really work on all monsters, considering its fast sharpness consumption and short range.

I'd rather have the reload still be a thing but allow it to be mixed with combos instead of Frontier's solution of essentially giving them a safe and lenient guard. Just take Alchemy SA's reload after advance, add it to the side-chop which currently serves no purpose, and give it to the base weapon while mashing R alone just morphs

Any weapon without gun in its name isn't worth my time. HBG seems to have some nice new moves, looks cool. That said it's pretty gay that you can do shit like reload, rapid fire and siege mode while moving now, hope it doesn't encourage shitters to start playing bowguns. Don't want faggots to sully the name of my beautiful weapon. Hope gunlance is actually good this time though, fucks sake if you're going to make it burn through quality give it an edge to compensate.

From the looks of it, the encore can seemingly be done forwards now? Not sure. Also, moving while reciting, but it looks like it's baby steps compared to potion walking speed. There's also that weird hit at 0:16 in where the horn slams against the ground and produces a shockwave of sorts. Overall it looks like there's more motion involved in all the recitals and the transition from attacking to reciting.

Past monster hunter games ran on garbage bin hardware and looked the part. If there is an increase in graphical fidelity you better make sure it's more than just a new coat of textures. But again, the animations never seamed this fucking choppy to me.

If this is really hit stop then it's the worst implementation i have ever seen. Dragon's Dogma already had way too much hit stop, like it missed the point of what it's used for. Hit stop is supposed to convey the fact that there was impact not the fact that there is fucking hit stop. To see good examples you just need to look at things like Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry and pretty much almost all of the well known (mainly 3D) fighting games.

It's easy to surpass 100 hours in your firstly MH. And you'll usually soft-clear the village, using the one weapon type you're most comfortable with. Unlocking your hunter rank in Guild doubles that, especially if you're not key rushing. Grinding endgame, sure that's entirely optional and up to the player. But the game encourages the use of different weapons (and more now thanks to changing at camp). You can easily drop 20+hours getting a comfortable grip learning the charge blade.

You can't deny that the game has a lot of content. Palicos, DLC (which is usually for end/late game players), min/maxing etc. MH is daunting for a first timer. A first timer that makes it to end game and continues to play will exceed 300 hours. Sure a large chunk is you staring at menus and gear managing, but it still ads to your playtime.

That said I'm prepared to drop 1000 hours into this because that's what I do in MH games

I personally love(d) CB because it is (was) the perfect transforming weapon. They tried that with SA before, but that weapon's two modes don't have any synergy between each other, so the axe mode got always neglected.

What they're trying to say is you're fucking retarded because you've never played a MH game in your life. Compare any 1 animation in a game like Skyrim to one of those weapon videos. Now compare it to something like God of War.

The key differences are particle effects. Motion blur, visible slashes (glow wind particle fx), that mask the jank. MH excels at animation fluidity compared to most other games on the market and intentionally excludes blur. The animations look the same as on handheld, but now they're blown up. That's what you're seeing as "choppy," which makes sense since it's not a 60 fps video

The severe hitstop from that Greatsword hit never existed in old MH games. There was always hitstop, but never to that extent. It seems to be a new mechanics specific to some hard hits on weak zones. It's a visual indicator and not indicative of lack of animation quality. It's purely aesthetic and gives legitimate weight to weapons.

There are very few rapid animation cancels in the game, from monsters and hunters. Some animations cannot be cancelled at all, and they're always the same calculated speed. So that hitstop is part of the "confirmed" animation. In the past, that same animation would hitstop for less than half that length. Now it seems exaggerated, specifically for GS. Couple that with the Greatsword charged swings and you see an animation start, then pause for charge, then swing, then hitstop, then animation end.

That's what you're seeing. And that's how GS has been portrayed, now with more gar. I have no clue why you're even mad at this if you're not gonna play the series ever.

If you only kill a monster once, there is no way to progress in the game, because you'll never be able to craft. It's not pretend content. Fighting a Rajang in a Volcano vs Snow vs a flat grassy land changes the fight. Using a Hunting Horn against it is completely different from using a Bow. The same exact fight varies based on behavior, terrain, monster size (a small hitbox vs large of the same monster makes some moves unsafe), and weapon use.

If your measure is one monster =15 minute fight = 15 minutes of content, then you might be correct. But when you fight that monster 4x to make a set, that's an hour of content. Playing the game is content, what you choose to hunt is up to you.

Its been confirmed that you craft one set for both blademaser and gunner. There is a specific armor bonus when using blademaster (+def), and guns (+elemental def), which roughly translates into less physical damage taken by blademasters (like in every MH), and more 1HKO potential for gunners (just like old times). Elemental resist has always been negligible unless you had severe negative resist against a monster of that type, so it's just sort of "there."

I don't give a fuck about any of that. It's LITERALLY the exact same animation but following a different one and with the legs mirrored. It even has the exact same amount of hit stop regardless of the fact that it no longer slows the world around you, so it's like the character and the world are on different planes of reality.

The one thing that kinda bugs me right now is the lack of slashing effects so I actually know where I'm slashing.

Not saying it should be over the top like Gen though I like anime flashyness as well. I understand this one is going for another more restricted look.
