What are some games with in-depth bestiaries? Preferable with 3D models (or sprites if it's a classic game).
The two I can think of off the top of my head are FFXII and SotN.Also, is there any way to zoom in on the models in the XII bestiary? Because I'm only getting rotate controls.
>>385300334
Persona 5 has a nice bestiary system, no idea about the others
>>385300334
Soul Sacrifice does this with the all goea but bosses have more depth, telling about their life as a human and the circumstances that made them into fiends but it only has them as skecthes in the beastiary.
Ass for FFXII, no zoom in which is lame
Harpy
You need to mate eagle enemy with one of your princesses to make one.
Pretty good at sniping enemies because she stays in the air after launched. Especially useful in castle stages.

I already have delta and have put over 300 hours into it. Whole reason I bought a vita.
And fucking hell on the FFXII thing. Hopefully they'll patch it or something. What about the trial mode exclusive enemies like Judge Drace? Do those get added to the bestiary once you beat them?
how does one compete?

Holy crap, finally a reason to post this image. These guys are my favorite. The church giants.
They're pretty simple enemies, but they look so damn cool. I love their designs so much. The one with the big wrecking ball is probably my favorite due to how unique it is, it's the only one in the game. I think. I'm pretty sure there's only one wrecking ball giant in the game.

An elusive being with a hobby more sinister than gathering harmless trinkets, it travels through the corridors of the dungeons, collecting the severed heads of fallen heroes he comes across.
A tall and terrifying figure – a King in Yellow, a Desecrator of Graves and Bodies, a Beheader of Corpses, a Taker of Heads. The Collector is shaped like a man, dressed as a man, has the face of a man, but the similarity ends there. What is hidden underneath that yellow cloak is an inhuman monster, a horrid amalgamation of severed heads and torn out spines twisted together into nightmarish mass of flesh and skulls. Just a glimpse underneath his cloak is enough to tell you what this thing has done to its victims and what may happen to you if he catches you. Where he comes from no one knows. Some believe that the Collector is the result of the ancestor’s many vile experiments, others that he is an otherworldly creature that sneaked its way into our world. In the end it does not matter, the only thing that matters is that he must be stopped before he desecrates more graves of your fallen heroes, cuts off their heads, and adds them to his macabre 'collection' of still living screaming heads and tortured souls.

try a non-snes chrono trigger and final fantasy origins
Phyrexia is an artificial plane of mechanical and biomechanical "life", an ecosystem comprised of metal, death, and tissue. A hellish world with an accelerated evolution of artifact creatures.
Phyrexia was not so different from any other plane until a scourge, Yawgmoth, arrived thousands of years ago, brought there by a planeswalker.
Upon discovering the artificial plane of Phyrexia, Yawgmoth felt an increasing desire to utilize this mechanical plane to his own ends. He became the god of that plane, but his true dream was to return to his home plane of Dominaria and turn its inhabitants into "perfect beings" under his rule.
Yawgmoth, with the remnants and descendants of the diseased humans whom he saved through the process he referred to as "Phyresis" (essentially the replacement of weak mortality with artifice) came here when they were forced out of the Thran Empire as traitors. The ensuing war destroyed the nation of the Thran.
Yawgmoth gave Phyrexian organisms a purpose: to thrive, to grow beyond the confines of Phyrexia and into the rest of the Multiverse. Over hundreds of years, Phyrexia evolved priests and acolytes who extolled and worshipped Yawgmoth, as well as demons and abominations of infinite variety to kill for him. Witch Engines. Birth Priests. Flesh Reavers. Hollow Dogs. Blood Praetors.
Over time a vast social order emerged, a horrifying food chain with church-like rites and rituals. Phyrexian organisms were judged by their ability to survive their nightmarish world. Successful ones were “evolved” with an unspeakable mixture of necrotic tissue and greasy metal.
Praetors are the leaders of the Phyrexian horde, previously being five in total. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is pictured. Elesh Norn believes that Phyrexia must adhere to the teachings of the Father of Machines. They intend to indoctrinate everyone about the truth, even if it means tearing them limb from limb and reattaching the parts into a creation that is worthy of Phyrexia.

That is Ulamog, an Eldrazi titan. There are three. Ulamog, Kozilek(pic related), and Emrakul.
>Eldrich horrors.
>Oh boy here we go.
The Eldrazi are an ancient race that have neither true physical form nor alignment. Their nature is ceaseless hunger, so they travel between planes devouring the mana and life energy until the plane’s destruction. Each Titan lives outside of the planes. When one wants to feed, it extends a part of its "body" into the plane, to create a physical manifestation of itself there, as well as an army of drones that are extensions of its body and will.
They are very clearly inspired from H.P. Lovecraft's work, frequently described as "impossible" or hard to even comprehend.

Fair enough, I guess to me they always seemed like natural creatures that just so happen to be able to kick your ass (ik they're like abominations or whatever, just the vibe I get) seeing them wonder around in DD was one of the coolest things when I first saw it. I suppose that's just because of how that game is tho. I think the best way I could describe it is kind of like how sea monsters are, ya know? They're just kind of out there and out of our control. Also they look cool

Talmudic and biblical angels. Foe or friend, they're cool as fuck, and something you'll never read in any other religion. These things are Lovecratian as fuck.
Also, I love goat people, which is hypocritical of me, since I find animal+person to be a boring, uncreative, copout of a being, but something about them seems so natural, wicked, and fey, despite the contradictions in there. I'm very tired, so I can't go much into detail or articulate my thoughts on this, so this post might as well have ended at angels portion. I don't even know why I'm typing all this out, this is blog posting, pretty much, and I, nor should anyone, do that.

From Disgaea.
They've gone through a few name changes, Originally they were called Great Wyrms, then they became known as Ifrit, now they are Dragon Kings
In any event, they are dragons, as you can plainly see, and they are capable of jet-propulsed flight, and are also capable of surviving in space. They've allegedly got diamond hard claws, and hide so tough that even those claws can't pierce it, but little has been shown supporting this. They do usually have the absolute highest attack stats and aptitudes in the game whenever they show up, sometimes by a noticeable margin, and have almost as high HP and Defense values, but tend to have low magical stats and. Sometimes they have high Hit, other times not
Despite the claws, horns, teeth, and whatnot, their basic attack is an uppercut. An exploding one. Otherwise they fight by expelling vast quantities of fire, or whatever else, in the form of breath weapons, massive explosions, their own body flames, flying things into the sun, or just crashing into things
They come in a bunch of colors, in some games, they can shift element through this, gaining Ice or Wind powers, or even lasers, but most of the time they are fire specialists
Among other things, they are capable of devouring stars to super-charge themselves, meaning that while far weaker, one could totally beat up Superman. They are also apparently classic anime fans since they have mastered a fiery version of Krillin's Kienzan, and an adaptation of Sailor Mars' Burning Mandala
Their lore is basically that they wander around the universe, picking fights with anything they please. They don't really have a homeworld or anything, so they are actually pretty rare. They stand out from most other Disgaea characters/monsters in that they aren't really interested in mischief or dicking around, they are just super aggressive and violent.
At least one became a famous actress, however, so they aren't all just mindless monsters
They can also turn into axes

Another Disgaea Monster, The Rifle Demon.
They were originally a strong, if unremarkable species of demon that invaded an advanced human world, stole their technology, and improved themselves with it.
Between that and their design, they are pretty clearly based off Cyberdemons.
They are famously belligerent, frequently alcoholic, and tend to embody the more fun aspects of carnage. They also are late risers, and take pride when they sleep in past noon. They love suddenly shooting off their guns when everything's quiet, and are known to occasionally use their gun-arms as hoverboards, devastating the road behind them.
Their guns fire all sorts of things, most of it laser-related. They can emit pulses, piercing beams, lightsabers, tractor beams, exploding rounds, rapid-fire bullets, concussive "recoil" shots, warheads, and more. They excel at attacking while remaining stationary, and are rather slow. They are fantastic shots though, and in some games they can't miss. Period. No amount of speed or other evasion hax touches them. Nobody is sure if this is because of their weird eyes, some kind of target lock, or just good old-fashioned drunken good fortune.
They can also apparently absorb their own discharged energy to super-charge their next shot.
They are quite bulky and strong, though they are surprisingly resistant to magic, and also surprisingly good at healing magic. They are also really, really strong, so while they excel in ranged combat, they can mix it up in melee decently as well. Their man flaws are poor speed and mobility, terrible offensive magic abilities, and low SP, meaning they run out of juice pretty quick. Fortunately, at least some kinds of booze refill it, and these guys love their booze.
They insist that the core at their waist is inedible. Often repeatedly.
They can also turn into guns themselves, though their stat spreads mean that these guns are often better bludgeons than firearms. Not that they are bad firearms.

Dominions 4 doesn't have an in game bestiary but it has literally thousands of different characters and creatures with different ingame stats and descriptions which can be seen in the inspector here:

"They casually float through the environment and overpower the minds of anyone unfortunate enough to be in their presence. The humans that get possessed by Telepaths are aware of this fact, but are powerless to do anything. In addition to commanding a horde of mind-slaves, Telepaths can throw out deadly blasts of psychic energy that deal near-lethal amounts of damage.
It is unknown if the head destruction effect experienced by mind-controlled humans is deliberate on the part of the Telepath or not."
