Like I said, it's not hard. Steel is everywhere, and the occasional aluminium or whatnot is not hard to find if you're not using it on crafting the moment you find it. Always carry a few spare pieces so you can change on the go, and hoard all the pieces you find and hide them in your houses/bases/settlements for easy changes, if need be

You are supposed to be invincible in a suit of power armor, except to end game weapons. You must not have played the first 2 games. Not sure why they gave you end game armor in the first main quest, but that's how it goes.

I modded the "Assault Rifle" to fire .308 and do massive amounts of damage. Once supermutants start stocking those, it actually gets really diffifcult. I got a few other tweaks, but to most enemies who use pipe weapons, you are supposed to be unstoppable

And once I mod an exo suit from cod, I will be able to combine best of both worlds, so going without power armor will be a laughable idea

That's another thing, you either end up wiping out the small factions or jumping through the 'optional' hoops in the quest, maybe passing a skill check and getting them on your side instead. Granted having the Enclave squad or the Boomer's bomber show up was kind of neat, but given the completely negligible effect on that battle and that you have nothing to do with them between completing their little questline and the dam battle their importance is greatly overstated in that image.

Was anyone else glad power armour got toned down in 3 and New Vegas?
Power armour always looked ugly and bulbous but it wasn't just the best armour it was several tiers of best armour above the next best thing. Without any downsides attached you would be stupid not to use it which meant every character whether they shot, punched, stealthed or talked their way through the game would all end up looking the same.
The move to 3D put even more emphasis on how your character looks so being able to abstain from power armour to play the game with that sweet NCR ranger gear was great.

Didnt bother me; I didnt finish F1 with power armor because I didnt find it and was too lazy to look for it.
Finding PA in F2 was much easier though and never finished the game without it.

the difference is that jet only showed up in "locked" places in fallout 3 and new vegas because of the way the loot generation works, whereas fallout 4 explicitly says in an ancient pre war data log on a computer that jet existed pre war, which means that someone intentionally wrote that into the game not caring about the lore
