By virtue of being a Mario Kart clone Sonic Kart can focus exclusively on making improvements to the formula. Both Sonic Kart games are unironically better and more fun than any Mario Kart game. They're the superior choice if you're a high IQ patrician who cares about gameplay.

Karts require a really fast input timing, but not just mashing, I've tested it with a turbo controller and got a better time with manual tapping.

Each vehicle has its own pros and cons, Karts/Hovers get better boost speed but planes get other places to boost and barrel roll.
Hover has all-terrain capability, but is harder to control and snaking is really difficult.
Also kart gets drifting, which is more faster and safer than barrel rolling with a plane.

MK8D easily disposable once MK9 is a thing. MKDS has mission mode and a higher skill ceiling, on top of being all-around the most well-rounded version of MK for single and multiplayer. Sheer content isn't even an argument in MK8D's favor because MKWii with mods absolutely destroys it and there's even online for the mods.

I agree. But even then, it is missing so many good tracks like Waluigi Pinball, Peach Gardens or Shroom Pass. Mario Kart 8 is actually one of the few games where I want more DLC to come out. They should just have a team dedicated to remaking all the tracks from past games and let people buy the ones they want.

Some of the best tracks in MK8 are the SNES/N64 tracks they redid. I absolutely hated Donut Plains in the original Mario Kart, but its one of my favorite tracks in MK8 tied with Mount Wario and the Subway.

Get rid of sonic/DK, make it a trinity by adding MK8D

The items don't work, like at all, they're poorly designed (baseball never hits anything or ends hitting you, goo is useless, rc car never hits or goes full crazy unless your opponent is in front of you and the stun isn't that good, same with the plane, rain only appears when you're dead last in 6th and even then is better to just restart, only soda can and bubble are worth using).
The acceleration in the game is really fucked up, you lose all your momentum whenever you crash or get hit and recovering is slow as hell.
The characters are unbalanced as fuck, the first 6 chars share the same stats without changes and only the unlockables have different stats, and the best one is locked with the gbc transfer pak shit. Minnie/Daisy are useless because of poor top speed, while Goofy/Pete are the only good choices (unless you use the nephews), but with their bad accel one fuck up is a cup restart, Ludwig is masochism at anything but amateur.
I love the game to death, but I know that it has some flaws that hurt it.

The weapons not being overpowered is part of what makes grand prix races to good in my opinion. You rarely get screwed over and they aren't a free hit for you either like in other kart racers. Plane will hit on straightaways but will hit walls on turns, rc shooter is the same, but won't hit if you're too close or if the ground has hazards, and baseball is unreliable at long range but can be thrown backwards. They're all no good if your opponents completely leave you in their dust but they aren't useless if you catch up meaning the focus is never taken off being good at the game. As far as rhe balance of the characters go you're absolutely right, but its not like most kart racers do it better and while the high acceleration characters aren't good for the grand prix, they are by far the best for the battle mode. And as far as the professor goes, he's actually the most busted by far on the less complex tracks and us so fast that you don't have to deal with items. The lines he has to take are really different because of his shit turning and you have to master breaking just the right amount to keep his speed up while making turns but he's so stupidly fast that its worth it and time trials are crazy fun with him.
The game has so many great QoL things in the options too that were not in a lot of racers at the time like turning off character voices.

The problem with the weapons is not that they're broken, is that they don't work, take for example being in 2nd/3rd place, The AI is hard to catch up, even with Goofy/Pete, so you need to get a good item to atleast get a chance, but you get spammed with goo/baseball which never work (yeah, you can throw baseballs as traps but we're talking about being in anything other than 1st) and the rc cars/planes tend to miss the target by going full retard on the walls, also take in mind that baseballs slows down or start bouncing everywhere, which can hit you.
As for balance, DKR was pretty balanced besides T.T and Drumstick and didn't copypaste stats besides Diddy and Timber.
Ludwig is only good for time trials and amateur mode where he's hilariously broken, unless you're godlike at the game and you don't make any mistakes like bumping, braking too much while sharp turning or going offroad, for anything else, any nephew is better.

Nah man, you just need to be semi consistent repeating what you do in tts in races and not mess up on the last lap. I'm nowhere near as good at the game ad yo are and don't even have a sub 1:05 on Indianapolis, but since you can finish more than 10 seconds slower than that on pro and mm and still win by a good bit. On the last two cups sure its best to use the nephews, but on the first two its easy to win with the prof without losing continues since you can gain two or three seconds on any easy drift.

It was the first kart-racing game with a hubworld, even if it wasn't that big, it was something back then considering most kart racers at the time were just cup menus and done.
And the gameplay is still solid as hell, the vehicles have good controls, the tracks, while short, are fun to race, with the amount of boost pads giving it enough speed to be a fast-paced game.
