Do a lot of people still play NL? I just got a 3DS and was thinking of getting into the animal crossing series.

A pleasant time consuming game requiring almost no effort at all with cute characters to interact with. The town looks like shit if you neglect it so you feel compelled to do some weeding on behalf of the entire fucking town because animals don't give a single FUCK about bits of grass.
