The first game had the best designs for characters. Chronicles 2 doesn't have that level of quality.

I think you want more of the same, and I'm loath to agree. I'd rather they try something different and personally, the anime style conveys emotion just fine. The rest of the body model is on par or better than X. You may dislike the designs but you can't objectively say the first game has better designs, especially when you haven't seen all the characters yet.
