In a vacuum, Spirit of Justice had two very strong cases (2 and 3) and was pretty good overall, especially in comparison to the shit that was Dual Destinies and Apollo Justice, but as a whole, still not the best. The overall story had a really strong concept, but was weakened by the fact that they just copypasta'd shit that already happened in the series, but made it worse. That and I'm still not happy with the direction that the series is going. Too many fucking characters that they don't know what to do with.

Spirit of Justice had some great plot points and wonderful moments which is far more than you can say about Dual Destinies. And like Dual Destinies it has wonderful art and animation.

But the gameplay is the weakest it has ever been. I mean, it is what it is at this point, but I wish they could switch it up somehow.

Mentor Wright was pretty good in SoJ. Sort of makes up for how they just threw out Hobo Wright's characterization in AA5, it at least continues to present him as an experienced superior in Apollo's perspective.

AA5's gameplay is far and way the worst out of the entire series. The game literally fucking railroads you during investigations and automatically moves you from location-to-location, only a select few areas are investigatable, trials are easy as fuck, Psyche-locks/perceive are barely used, etc.

AA6's gameplay was solid. Trials were more difficult than AA5, they brought back investigatable areas, investigations don't fucking railroad you anymore, and the Seances were a great gimmick (arguing against objective truth is always fucking fantastic concept). My only major gripe is that the investigations were still linear because they never utilized the Psyche-locks or Perceive as non-linear blockers, whenever one came up you always had the right Evidence to advance.

I replayed the original trilogy recently. I thought it was a stupid idea since it's a story-based game and I know everything already. You can throw Sherlock into pretty much anything and get away with it - so long you don't reference the later tales under copyright (i.e. how Holmes went off to become a beekeeper). That's how a lot of the secondary media came about - do you really think the multitudes of Sherlock Holmes books in the 20th century paid the Conan Doyle Estate money for the use of their character?


The issue - from what I gather - is that one of Holmes' JRs is quite literally the plotline of a book under copyright in the US, and that one of the stories mentioned by name as evidence is also under copyright.
