Hey, i would want to produce music for videogames, i know its a tricky question but someone has knowledge of the area?
One of my main task right now is to listen music in vidya in an analytic way, so if someone has advices on this or can recommend me good ost to listen to, would be nice.

Anything from Falcom, particularly their early 90s stuff.

/v/ will link you OSTs from 20 years ago but don't fall for that it's just all nostalgia
big title OSTs are all orchestral stuff with optional choir nowadays, similar to film music

>orchestral film-like music is inherently bad
Do you really think a game like Witcher 3 wouldn't have an orchestral folk-like soundtrack? What else would a RPG with an atmosphere like that have?

do you actually know how to compose music yet or are you just an ideas guy?
anyway, listen to all of this and study it:

Arcanum for pc has my favorite OST, it's all romantic strings chamber music-
Wilderness theme:

Villages theme:

Theme for one of the cities:

The music is very thematic, instrumentation included. Human areas have only Victorianstring music. Dwarves and elven are the only ones that use percussion, interestingly-
Dwarven mines:

This last one is my favorite piece. You travel through thick forest, climb to the treetops, and then the song opens with the sound of rustling leaves and xylophones
Elven city (pic related):

Good luck op

It's not inherently bad but it is overused in video games so I his point. The music in Bloodborne sounds boring and is all over the place.
I enjoy listening to the music in Pokemon, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, Lost Kingdoms, The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, and etc.

I'm not sure how much it will help, but here's a pretty in-depth analysis of Mario's music.

Maybe go for something unique like an incredibly simple folk tunes that would be fitting of the times contrasting the glory of some of the glory of the surroundings? Like anything besides what is in every fucking game ever now?

modern falcom kicks oldschool falcom's ass though
i've never heard a final boss theme this uplifting or a final boss theme that utilized celtic folk and bagpipes before until this

There are a few things you need to pay attention to:
First, the song can't get boring or annoying no matter how many the times you listen to it, because it will be looping endlessly on the background (this is why lyrics are usually out of the question). It must also have a good, steady pace with no long intros or weird tone shifts. The loop must be as seamless as possible, almost as if the end of the song is an introduction to the beginning. Finally, it must be tonally consistent with the game and fit its "mood".
I recommend listening to the Super Meat Boy soundtrack, it is honestly one of the best ever put into a video game.

>hurrr no intros
They don't loop the intro retard. You pontificate like you actually know what you're talking about but you're really a dumbfuck when it comes to this.
>>385274578
Yes it does, what are you talking about?
Also, I said no LONG intros.
And why the hostility?
>>385274992
Have you ever heard a video game soundtrack? They sound like Art Rock. Most of them actually sound like something Queen or David Bowie would make.
>>385265821
Haters gonna hate but this is unironically a great OST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxNcKXjfaQo

>Faggytar music with generic chiptune

>>385275187
So what? Every soundtrack has to sound like that? And I still don't get what you meant by "it doesn't loop the intro".

This is objectively the best piece in all of vidya
