Zinogre (and to an extent, Nargacuga) look reptilian enough for what their design is going for the only people who don't realize this are shitty furry artists, but Monster Hunter is indeed a bit funny with its categorizations. Akantor and Ukanlos are considered Flying Wyverns, and the Elder Dragon category includes a lightning unicorn, a levitating octopus, and Bone Splatoon alongside lions and chameleons with wings. But it's fine for the setting, I guess.

From what I see the problem here is about how much detail the artist is willing to put in and it's clear that a lot of it, especially on the body, gets omitted. Even the external spikes outside the mouth are frequently looked over, and combined with the 'nose' you get a more flat-looking face. Granted, it's probably not an easy design to nail down.
