Also there was a NG+ feature on the first gen with having all of your Pokemon in the PC stay there when starting a new save file. That had freeman being chased by soldiers, shootin through windows, barricading the door and the soldiers kicking in the door. not really a lie but I didn't know super sonic was playable until one time I somehow by chance entered the sonic 3 debug code.

This was before & knuckles came out, and I to this day have no idea how the fuck it happened because the code is practically impossible to enter. Until I learned the cartridge-swap trick years later, I was convinced my experience with the sonic 3-only debug was some bizarre fever dream. I had to have been 5 years old at the time.

3's debug mode is some fucked up shit.
