It could be a perfect conversion and people will still find a excuse not to play it, like hd tvs are too laggy or the resolution is too distracting.

Well, the triggers from the gamecube controller are essential for this game. Things wouldn't work with analog controllers in this game. They first need to fix that problem if they really wanna release just an HD version. But even if they do, they'll fix everything like wavedashing so that at the end you'll just have a faster sm4sh.
