The reason Zero calmed down after that was because of the virus' influence. For some reason, rather than make him go more berserk, it actually made him sane and rational, as if it corrected the flaw in his programming. Wily would later utilize this unforeseen effect in the form of the Zero Virus. Remember how eerily calm Zero was in the bad ending for X5? Wily basically took the effect of the virus on Zero to its logical conclusion. Rather than a crazed, uncontrollable berserker, Zero became a calm, efficient killer.

We already know what happens in the Elf War. X fights on the front lines, chasing after Omega and wiping out the enemy's armies. Zero spends most of the war in stasis until the very, very end. After he's put in a new body and reactivated, he takes part in a single infiltration mission to steal the Dark Elf and use it to deactivate the enemy Reploids. And in their final stand, X and Zero take down Omega with a Final Strike.

Eh I feel like ZXA's secret ending gives you just enough tidbits to kind of make your own theory about how it leads into Legends.

I think making games that lead directly up to Legends, as well as exploring the Elf War, removes a bit of the mystery from those games storylines. I wouldn't mind them using it if it was appropriate though. Like if they decide to make a Mega Man musou type game and say "hey what if this took place at the elf war."

I kind of want the Battle Network / Star Force universe to continue somehow though. But I'm biased because I like those games

There was a short arc between 2 and 3 where a big Wily mech ended up being reactivated in X's time (specifically before X1), and X, Zero, Vile, and Sigma needed to take it down. Then they got involved in the Worlds Unite crossover.

Quint's arc never properly began. It was set up and referenced, but didn't happen.

Zero is historically the better machine, since he outlived X and the Guardians, as well as had his live metal be incredibly important. Not to mention how much he outperformed X at any given moment by outranking him and just finishing objectives on his own.

X is supposed to be superior due to limitless potential and armor upgrades, but Inafune fucked everything up by sticking his dick into the series lore to ensure his Zero would be the real star.

He's something beyond the Robot Masters due to his advanced design and somewhat free will. Light was the best at hardware, while Wily was the expert coder and programmer, yet the irony is that Wily made the superior hardware at the end of the day with Zero being OP for hundreds of years, while X had superior programming due to the morality testing that ultimately pacified him.
