Reddit must be on to something, 2016 and 2017 have been some of the best years in gaming history. 2014 in particular was real grim though.

Resident Evil 7, Prey, Outlast 2, For Honor, Nier if you're into jap stuff, among others. PUBG if you're into survival multiplayer early access games with 3 friends. I heard Nioh was cool and even tho I hate the series Botw looks pretty solid. HZD don't look bad either but I really don't care about it.

Souls games are only hard for people who dont play games, if you find those games hard I have bad news for you. Seriously, past your first game none of them are hard, but does that make them a bad experience? Fuck no. Difficulty does not automatically equate to a good game, the Surge is a fine game, its not as good as Souls games, but if you simply measure every game up to Souls games to see if its good then I imagine you dont actually end up playing many games at all, and have 9999999+ hours in Dark Souls because you refuse to even try to like anything else. You can like and play more than one game anon, liking Surge or Nioh or any of those kinds of games does not mean you hate Souls games or think they are even better than Souls games.

You should want MORE of these kinds of games, not less. Dark Souls doesnt lose value or stop existing because these games exist beside it. Even if the Surge isnt as good as Souls games its still worth a try if you like those kinds of games.

I didnt like LotF because it was painfully generic as a setting, Surge's setting is run of the mill sci fi but its with the kind of gameplay I like, I had always wanted a sci fi Souls game and this is the closest we have to it. Its not a bad game, its very average. LotF is below average, without the gameplay it is so bland that its a joke, but the gameplay can do something for people who like these sort of games.

I'd say it's a decent year. Not all that strong, but then again Shadow of War and Wolfenstein New Colossus isn't out yet, and I'm probably going to grab both.

2018 in gaming though, with shit like Metro: Exodus, and Sea of Thieves, that should be an interesting year.
