Why did this game fail?

It was too easy and therefore not fun. Nintendo should learn from Crash's success, games need to actually be somewhat challenging to be fun.

I really wanted to play this so I bought a Wii u last year just for this. Finished it in like a day or two. It felt so mediocre and there was no challenge or anything. Took the Wii u back and was glad i got that out of my system. Bought a ps4 and loving every minute

It didn't, it was one of the first successful Wii U titles and did well. That fact makes Salty Sonyfags who only had BB for years even more vocal on /v/, taking any opportunity to shit on it.

It wasn't another 64/Sunshine, but it was still a great game that did what it set out to do. Multiplayer was great, there was a bit of challenge and some secrets still sprinkled about.

Crash has to be some of the most shallow and overrated platformers I've ever played, literally wannabe DKC but with some 3D corridors as a selling gimmick. Crash' "revival" will not last long because even though I'm not very fond of Naughty Dog they had shit heaps of more talent for what they want to do, Vicarious Visions? Just trying to piggyback off shit already created just like with those GBA games they made and if there's a new crash game after a CTR remaster (only good crash game so let's see how they fuck that up like they did nitro kart) it will be wrath of cortex tier, fact.

Not gonna lie, Mario fan since SMB the series is as 10/10 as it has always been. 3D World is what my ideal 3D Mario would have been since I first played 64. Either way, all 3D Mario games are fantastic. You were never a fan.
