Lets take a walk down memory lane, remember all those great multiplat games that came to the WiiU? Oh wait, that didn't happen... The WiiU couldn't run a lot of games that were available on both ps4 and xbox one. When they tried we ended up with a sloppy mess with cut features and mashed potato visuals. Lets be real here, the Switch is not on par with the Xbox One or PS4. Right out of the gate we have the same situation. Some developers are flat out refusing to port becuase it isn't worth the time or just isn't possible. The games we are getting ports of will be VERY OLD games with content cut. Third party support is very important to a console life cycle. Power matters, especially when you are releasing a tablet and trying to compete with consoles like the XboxOne, PS4, and now their "upgraded" counterparts.

Releasing in March was a good idea. Consoles sell at launch regardless of time of year. Consoles also sell during the Holiday Rush. The reason most consoles release during or right before the rush is for guaranteed sellthrough of the initial batch. If everything sells out you drive up demand but also you make game devs nervous. "Is this console going to be huge? What if it blows up and we don't have a game on it?"

However its pretty stupid to overlap two hot selling time periods if you can avoid it. You want the console launch numbers AND the holiday numbers without losing sales through lack of inventory. Nintendo ensured that they got the healthy launch by shipping 2 million units that they could easily sell through. Now they can carry that momentum through the end of the year with restocks before cashing in on a big holiday boost.

There isn't any reason why Q4 launches need to continue to be the standard.

Okay, and so does the Switch. It's only been 4 months and people expect the system to immediately have a million games at launch. And, we all know how 3rd Party is on Nintendo consoles.
What I don't get is how people criticize it for having ports yet nearly every console had ports at launch and later on in the year. If people want the Switch to have a library, it has to have ports.
