Product success dictates the standard so if a garbage game like this is insanely popular like it is for some reason, it mean other developers will take note and start copying. This is all we're gonna get for the next few years, it's probably gonna have it's own shitty genre name like the soulslikes and metroidvanias got. It's a really sad time for video games right now, they became infested with normies because apparently now it's cool to be a ''nerd''.

King of the hill battle royale games has been in the works and popular for quite a while and PUBG is the best out of all of them with great gunplay, balance, removal of features that slowed gameplay down and massively improved the concept to it's core.

>tons come out, none of them are actually that great

pubg fixed everything by 1) forcing a state of desperation by forcing you to move to increasingly smaller zones (matches are around a half hour) and 2) giving players what they want: endless loot.

the only change i would make is that near the end the zones would be in cities/towns and with a wider permanent radius, it's just boring everyone proning in a field and someone with higher ground who got there first always winning.

Anon, I...

I encouraged people to play Last of Us's multiplayer mode, which is a slow and methodical arena version of PUBG.

I feel like the whole open world and loot gathering aspects of PUBG are stupid. You just spend more time running around gathering shit and finding each other; it's a waste of time. You can contest resources, hold terrain advantages, move as a squad and choose a variety of loadouts in Last of Us except you don't have to run around for minutes to do it.

I'm open to be corrected, but I fail to see why the fuck adding grinding and shit and gathering and walking/driving long distances adds any value to the game besides "realism", which if you ask me, shouldn't be a selling point in gaming.
>>
>>385204880
>grinding
What do you mean?
>long distances
It's not really that far if you get a vehicle, but running for 10 munites to hunt the circle sure gets tedious. I'd just make it appear at the beginning of the round so you're not fucked if you happen to have jumped to the wrong corner of the map

>>
>>385205225
I have fun playing good games
Not sure what kind of kind two digit IQ retard would find running around collecting shit and sniping people from bushes fun
>>
>>385205063
Grinding is the wrong word, I meant gathering.

My problem is the fact that any time is spent on gathering shit and stalking people in an open world is a waste of time. It adds no value to the game whatsoever. Open world has its merits but only if that open world maintains the action density at all times, which is helped by the field shrinking but I feel like it makes it a pain in the ass when it's huge and even when its "small" it's a huge amount of running around as you said. A well designed small area that is the size of a city block allows you to condense all the resources in easy-to-remember spots, which creates conflict areas but is large enough to offer various options to use squad tactics against the other team.

I'm comparing the game to Last of Us's multiplayer, which I think is a fantastic example of this sort of thing. PUBG just takes that style of game people crave and just added tonnes of features that expanded the scale but the gameplay is such that it isn't improved by making everything more.

It adds replayability
Sometimes you get uzis and shotguns, and you'll want to crawl through cities and hunt players right away. Spometimes you find an AR and a 4x, and you can afford to roam the open fields more. One time you want the rapid action of a school drop, the other time you want to chill and drop to the shooting range before moving elsewhere.
The circle mechanics ensue that the rounds won't take forever, but will be finished in a timely fasion, so at the end you'll always be forced to engage players in a mid-short range battle.
The big map and random loot is designed to switch up the gameplay and rounds. It doesn't always have to be 24/7 firefights. They player can choose to do so, by dropping in a high density area, but that's up to him.

See, I don't like that random bullshit. I like the idea that if you see the opponent has something, you can respawn (in an enclosed area this is possible) with a loadout to respond to it or you can reliably adopt the tactic to build up resources to address the opponent's loadout.

But because it's all random and there's no respawn, you can't make those adjustments. You just have to fucking deal with it. Random gear is just an excuse to not balance anything; and players will defend that because it keeps things exciting.

I think things can be exciting when you design things that interact favorably or unfavorably with each other and create a balance where some gear/weapons prey on another type and in turn are preyed upon by another type. And then you add tactics to the mix and the terrain. But when it's all random, you can't plan, you don't even need to think; you just have what you have and you can only use it in one way and because you don't respawn you can't even adjust.

You make zero decisions, so much agency is taken away from you because your gear is often random.

Yeah well, it's a different kind of gamedesign. It's more about preparing beforehand and choosing your engagements, than adopting after the fact. Your preferences are different, but there's a legit reason for this alternative to exist.

>Random gear is just an excuse to not balance anything
I'm not really getting how you come to this conclusion. The gear still gets balanced as in any other game, because at the end of a round most players are going to be decked out anyhow.

>And then you add tactics to the mix and the terrain. But when it's all random, you can't plan, you don't even need to think; you just have what you have and you can only use it in one way and because you don't respawn you can't even adjust.
It's not like gear is super rare and you're just fucked if you don't get the best things right away. There's tons of loot, especially in the high density areas, and unless you get fucked in the first half minute right after dropping because the guy next to you landed on a weapon while you did on a backpack, you can adapt to whatever you find along the lines of my first points in the previous post.

>You make zero decisions, so much agency is taken away from you because your gear is often random.
This is just not true. You choose where to drop, you choose what buildings to enter, past the first few minutes you'll have the choice of which weapons to carry with you, you can choose where and how to enter the circle, you can choose to camp or hunt players.
In the midgame you can get kind of fucked by not getting a vehicle spawn, and at the very end the circles can fuck you over, but apart from that it's all up to you.

I feel like there's more tactics and balance of risk-reward in Factions, and Naughty dog will have the chance to deepen the mechanics for the sequel

Game got a massive update with talents and shit, yet d2g will yell about comeback mechanics ruining the game despite them being in the game for a year or so before 7.00 even got released.
>>
In my most honest opinion, I think the game is getting a lot of success because you can win matches by being a sneaky bitch

you can literally win by hiding and watching people killling each other
>>
>>385212032
You still have to run into the circles aren't you? People will see you running so it's not easy to hide
>>
>>385212125
yeah, i am counting on that too
the thing is some people win the matches killing 3-4 people AT THE END

What triggers me the most about this game is the title. How big of an opinion about yourself must you have to put your literal who's 13 letters long shitty nickname in the title. Fuck that lil'faggot unknown, should've stayed that way.

What can we do /v/ros?
>>
>>385212535
It's a pretty fun game to dick around on with friends. There's also the competition aspect of being first some people like. I find the lobby/plane in the beginning the best part of the match due to the pure autism. Most people on /v/ don't have any friends which is why they hate multiplayer games and just sperg out on Nintendo games
>>
>>385202251
PUBG is now a mainstay of online PC games
I honestly don't see why /v/ is so godamn assblasted by this game simply because it contains the word early access
It's essentially now in the ranks of TF2, CSGO, Gmod, etc. in terms of who plays it and why
They play it with friends, for fun
That's it
Fuck off /v/

The devs are using fake player accounts to inflate the number of active players and bait people into buying the game.

They also viewbot every single Twitch channel playing the game too.

You are retarded if you think that this game is really actually popular and not the biggest scam since forever.

played the F2P clone on steam.
It was a nice experience when I first tried it.
but it's boring.
The winning strategy is to avoid combat for as long as possible.
You can easily avoid combat by hiding till the last ~10 people.
Then you get to fight someone, and most likely die.

So it's 1 fight in ~30 mins, which is super boring.
>>
i unironically think Dota 2, PUBG and CSGO are all excellent games
>>
>>385216919
You literally can't.
>>
>>385217080

>>
>>385217080
>So it's 1 fight in ~30 mins, which is super boring.
Don't play like that then. On average I get 5-8 kills a match in duo because I drop in high loot areas. If every kill is a major risk then why spend 15 extra minutes camping just to die and get nowhere when you can be taking your chances and getting kills? You will die and get nowhere regardless of how you play, or win regardless of how you play if the chips fall in your favor.

>>385217394
Your chances of winning are the same despite if you camp all game or go commando and run wild.

The difference is the average length of each match and in how much you want that dindin. I've noticed that if you're really desperate for it, you're more likely to play cautiously. Cautious play is definitely boring, it stretches games out but does not increase your chances of winning. You won't feel satisfied because your win ratio will still be incredibly low. The only way to play this game is to go nuts, forget about winnin the dindin and just kill EVERYTHING. Go full predator. You will sometimes get killed immediately and other times you will do insanely well, like when my friend and I got 23 kills combined one time, and you will eventually win this way too.
>>
>>385218110

this

honestly my friends and I used to play 'to win' where we would land somewhere secluded, get a car and then drive to a big city as far from the plane trajectory as possible and loot up

i mean the only difference to landing in a fairly hot zone and then battling it out as soon as you land is that you waste 20 minutes playing looting simulator before you die

being the sole survivor/surviving squad out a hot area is much more satisfying and you're likely to be pretty geared after that as well. not saying that you should be landing in Miltary Base or the School every time, but we always go to relatively popular areas and battle it out
