Yes, mud can be chilly at night. Mud also not worth conquering, unlike great Elsweyr. Altmer come many times and we drive them out later. Magic breaks the game, but for practical purposes if you try to use spells to fight you'll want to kill yourself once monsters with 10000 hit points, over 9000 attack rating and reflect start popping up. If you want to play a dainty character use spears, on everyone else go heavy armor and swing the biggest sword/hammer you can find. The two expansions are respectively Oblivion and Skyrim prototypes and incessant combat against overpowered damage sponges is tedious beyond rational thought.

Its actually the opposite. At the beginning you don't have mana for shit. And later on every enemy has magic damage reflect out of his fucking ass. Which means casting a damage spell on them will reversefuck you in the ass.
You still can get OP but not without a good understanding of the mechanics and quite some cheesing.

I usually go for a swordsmen that dabbles in Illusions. You don't have to buy floating and water potions, which can drain your cash flow pretty hard early-mid game.

In addition to that, the only real magic-school worth taking is alchemy.
You can get one of the second best alchemy-sets in the game right at the beginning without doing anything and finally do something worthwhile with all the shit you loot from crates.
Never worry about no Stamina because you can get those potions from literally everything.
It's fucking free real-estate.
All the other magic can be handled with items.

Alchemy too is made irrelevant by items, unless you plan to cheese the potion singularity. An exquisite belt can be enchanted to constantly regenerate 8 fatigue, daedric tower shield can be enchanted to constantly regenerate 9 health, you can stack more with top-tier clothes and jewelry, and handle all magical utility with ridiculously cheap trinkets you will find along he way.

I'd also argue that illusion and conjuration are more immediately useful than alchemy. Conjuration means you have access to weightless daedric arms and armor on demand, illusion means you can just walk past all the hideous filler combat late game and expansions are lousy with.

Every time you pick up something owned by an NPC or faction, even if you're explicitly told to do so, every copy of that item in the world gets marked as stolen from that owner. If you're in the habit of stealing potions and jewelry each of those items will rapidly accumulate a massive list of owners. One of Bethesda's early displays of competence in programming.
