What is this about, looks kind of cool but I get kind of cautious of post 90's jrpgs.

Here's a favorite of mine. Sadly a case of the boxart being the best part of the game.

The overall plot is standard JRPG and the combat is meh, but what really makes the game is the party recruitment system. I had way too much fun with that, similar to Suikoden 2 but with more volume and better recruitment quests in my opinion.

This one is one of my favorites. Shame about the game, I love literally everything about this game EXCEPT the genre they chose. I want to love it but just can't.

Maybe it's just me but I always hated that weird chibi look they used in some art of FFIV-FFVI. Looks akward and bland to me.

All the characters were really quirky and interesting. It made recruiting them feel sincerely engaging - I never felt let down when I recruited a character with mediocre abilities, because I always got a laugh or some enjoyment out of interacting with them.

Game had god-tier character designs too.

Yeah, it makes me sad most boxart is just some cpi renders. I guess boxart just has a special place in my heart as that was how I became interested in games before. Even if alot of the US boxart then was kind of cheesey I still love them.

A lot of box art now is either just the title or one character layered over a simple background. Most new box art seems to be a variation on pic related. I get the same feeling from movie posters these days too.

I remember how happy I was when I managed to recruit Jack's sister after having to go to the village in the middle of nowhere multiple times to talk to her. Getting the guild leaders was also so good, especially the last one. That mage girl trying to revive her husband too.
God I need to play it again.

This art wasn't even made for the game. Square liked the art so much that they bought the rights for it from the artist and simply edited the characters into the picture.
