No, the human eye is much more complex than a computer monitor. It doesnt see in FPS and most people can see a very obvious difference past 60fps.

I'd show you a comparison video but chances are the monitor you're on right now is 60hz meaning you wouldn't be able to apprecate the change to 120.

If you're worried i'll say this: as a new pc gamer 60fps and 1080p is a fine spot for you. As you become more comfortable and knowledgeable about pc hardware you can make the decision to upgrade accordingly on your next pc build

Don't get an i5. Either get a Ryzen for the same price (they're strictly better no matter what, very few exceptions in games - on most RTS, Ryzen is undoubtedly better) or get an i7 7700k.

There's no ifs or buts. Ryzen is strictly a better option than i5s right now. R5 1600 or R7 1700 if you find it discounted or have the money for it. Everything else, besides an i7 7700k, at those price ranges, is irrelevant. Don't let retards tell you otherwise.

The Ryzen 5 1600 I just ordered should be more than capable. I haven't installed it yet. I currently use a FX-6300 and the cutscenes in MGS2:Sons of Liberty can only play at 50% speed unless the shot is a closeup. I want to emulate MGS3 later too.

I also couldn't run ARMA 3 very well and want to give it another try.

Because of how Ryzen works you generally want to spring for faster RAM. Diminishing returns kick in around 3200mhz, and you also need to watch compatibility with the motherboard you're using. Ryzen has seen performance improvements since launch, and games have already started taking advantage of more than 4 threads for a good while now and it's just going to become more widespread as we move on.

Even if you're going to recommend Intel, you sure as shit can't recommend almost any current Intel. Right now you either get the Bentium G4560 if you're a poor person, you get a 6-core Ryzen 5 if you're a midrange gamer, or you get a Ryzen 7 or wait on Threadripper if you're a content creator or something. If your budget is above Bentium range and you're not willing to go AMD (reminder that brand loyalty is fucking retarded) then you just don't buy a processor right now. Intel is prepping Coffee Lake i5 and i7 CPUs for later this year that have 6 cores. The 7700k may be the best overall gaming CPU right now, but 4 extra threads will go a long way in the near future of PC gaming, and it doesn't make sense not to wait for it.
