Watch some of your replays and analyze them. Keep getting hit by overheads? Grind it out in training mode. Shit like that is how to improve. Familiarize yourself with your characters tools. So you're going to have real fun anyways.

Thing is that "i suck at fighting games" kind of thinking is because you're not pulling off the longest most intrincate bullshit combo that can be done and that's fine. It requires a certain autism to do it with lots of practice that in the end its absolutely NOT required to beat someone. Nobody pulls off those combos at whim at first and most people fuck them up mid so you punish anyways. The skill level can get very high, it's true, but you're not going to meet anyone online like that just yet.

Weak defensive options, her varied, but really situational anti-airs, having to rely on opening people up with blockstring and frametrap pressure (RIP j.S), awkward setplay setups. The problem with a character that can do basically everything and could theoretically convert every stray hit into something is that you need to be good at all of it in the clutch. I never played her during the Elphelt-hell days, I think that helped me.
But it's not wrong to say that during these six months playing Elph, she taught me GG. I would have honestly dropped the game if it wasn't for her.
I have no previous fighting game background, so when I first played her all I did was c.S f.S HS spam. I learned HS whiffed on crouching opponents. I started altering my combos so they would hit opponents whether they were crouching or standing up. I learned how to use the grenade for space control, oki and pressure. I learned how to do shotgun loops. Etc etc.
So based on my experience, I'd say she's a very good starting character. /blog

Abuse the fact that you have multiple airdashes. You feel the screen with fishes, red for zoning, blue for going in. Also use darts and YRC to harass opponents and get in. 2D is your best friend, as it has long range and knocks down and looks like a fucking overhesd when its a low. Scummy Dizzy stuff include summoning laser fish YRC into jump crossup airdash back j.S into whatever so you can end in another 2D or you decide to go for damage by comboing with ice spike.

Speaking of ice spike. Its a good tool for harassing midrange. Good for checking opponents that the ice spike range is not a good place to play their game.

He's so easy to play it hurts. His gameplan is to harass with 2H into 236S ( claw) to check the midrange. Good damage too. Use pins to zone and if you have meter, pin YRC into air glide so you can get in and 2D knockdown. This is where Raven shines. When theyre knocked down, use the buzzsaw (236H) so theyll be forced to block on wakeup. During this you make them guess if youre going for a low (2K or 2H into claw), a fast overhead (Glide into whatever jumping normal into 2D), an instant low from glide (you can control the trajectory of glide and drop instantly by pressing a normal button on the downward flight of the glide so you can do a fast low into 2D) or a command grab. You do this over and over so you can do the buzzsaw setup and repeat the mixup. Uou use the masochist stance to anticipate moves then cancel into either his reversal super for damage, or YRC into whatever so you get your excitement meter up and improve his command grab damage. He's very one note, so you might get bored of him but he's top tier and wins you games.

You learn the possible routes of attacks from there. When you knock them down, either from 2D or you sniped them with Horizontal Chemical Love, you do the note and dash in. You condition them to block either high or low. Usually you want them to block high because by default they block low and react to overheads. You do instant overheads by abusing his dash. Since it puts her in airborbe state, every normal she does during that is an overhead. You do something like 66>j.K>j.S>j.D>Vertical Chemical Love for a knockdown so you can do note into guessing game again. Do note that your hoverdash attempts can get snuffed by a simple jab on their part so you have to be less predictable. I-no players do this by microdashing their hoverdash so I-no looks like she's hopping. It might look like shes gonna do an overhead but she does 2K instead for a low. Another route is to harass them with Stroke the Big Tree (Sword move). That completely fuck their attempt to jab you when you airdash, and when it counterhits, its a free combo.

The thing about I-No is shes very momentum based. You have to keep the mixup setups always. If they get out of it and starts pressuring you, you have limited options, either you do her reversal super or you get out the hardway (Burst, Faultless defense jump out, Dead angle attack, Blitz etc).

GG leaves a poor taste in my mouth with the weight system; it's dumb as fuck but I can still manage.

No. Don't. As someone with hundreds of hours in fighting games, I've finally come to a realization. Fighting game skill has to be(at least to a certain level) inherent. Anyone who is actually good at fgs is good partially because they were just lucky enough to be born with the correct aptitudes for the correct skills. And 99% of people do NOT have those skills. So my advice to you is if you have 50+ hours in any one fg and aren't at least at a mediocre level, give up. You'll never get there. Economicaly speaking, fighting games are niche and rely on their attached playerbase to move sales. For Japanese fighters, the company makes their money from arcades, pc and console ports are cherry on top and to attract western audiences. Making fighting games isnt easy so they either go for releasing a new game after a while but with lots of recycled models (Tekken 7), release lots of DLC (SFV) or constantly release full priced updates (arc sys works games).

Tekken is probably the most consumer friendly franchise in fighters since Harada doesnt believe in (too) Jewish DLCs and constant updates. Capcom only recently broke up of the multiple game bullshit with SFV but they botched the execution with poor business model. ASW is the biggest offender of this especially with early Guilty Gear games and Blazblue from Calamity Trigger to Chronophantasma. They have been trying to get out of the model by not releasing full priced games and by relying on small upgrade patches so its a bit better.

I remember a while ago that someone tried to convince me by posting a video from the same dude who made Guilty Bits and the video was arguing that Fighting games are really accessible because you can "choose how much time you want to improve on them" but his whole premise was built on "All you need is 4 and a half hours of free time a day, as long as you don't work as long as the average worker then you """""""""probably"""""" have enough time to play."

Honestly I've come to the conclusion that people really into fighting games are either children or manchildren who work on ground level jobs that don't require too much time to think about or time-investment because I honestly cannot see how someone who works a 9 to 5 job would have enough time to actually and legitimately improve on a fighting game nowadays. The amount of days that a person like me would have to spend just to muscle memorize a single combo would go into the weeks and easily into months even.

These games simply demand too much time and grinding to be worth a fuck. I can get just as much enjoyment from booting up something like Dark Souls, Overwatch or Bayo and just playing it from where I left off which is a lot more time-worthy and better than "Lul spend the next year and a half learning this game just so you can re-learn again because by the time you finally got your game plan down there's already been an update/upgrade to the game that changed something big with your character."

The only way I can imagine someone in adulthood and working in a job that's self-sufficient is if that person has been playing fighting games since they were a child and at that point we're already talking about a very unfair advantage and point of view when talking to a person who's 20+ and wanting to get into a fighting game.

I'll be waiting here for any of those people to make it big like the superstars because that's ultimately why you would start anything. To try and be the best you can be with it, that's the same with fighting games. Problem is that practice takes time and instruments and sports and (in this case) fighting games take WAAAAAY too much time to get into the top percent of people if you start them when you start working. It's just not possible.

And none of this is even going into the fact that a child's brain is literally formed to be better at learning than an adult. By the time you hit 15 if you haven't started an instrument or have been playing sport for a while then you're pretty much fucked out of that top percent regardless simply because you do not have the same edge as the ones who started when they were younger and had their brains molded and formed around those skills.
