You're mostly lookng to an easy bit of coverage through your second badge (chikorita is the worst in this regard). Cyndaquil admittedly does best against some of the garbage grass and bug pokemon you fight early on, but Totodile can basically rage through msot of the early game with very little difficulty unless you're underleveled but refuse to heal.

Once you get Abra in any case, between Psychic, ice, fire and electric all riding off that hefty special attack stat the game becomes a joke, and the difference between starters in the late game pales compared to that from a single player perspective.

Last I played Silver on my 3DS, I wasn't very far. I had a Quilava with Leftovers that I traded over from Gold, a Pidgey, a Kakuna, a Bellsprout, and the Togepi egg. In Gold, I just have a variety of Pokemon that I caught in Green - namely, the legendaries. I haven't touched Crystal yet, because I don't really care for it.

It reboots into a native GBA firmware or something so it's really barebones. You can't even access the home menu from it.

With CFW you can custom inject GBA games and they run great.

It's not very self-sufficient, which is what is ideal in a starter Pokemon; you want your first guy to be your main guy, the primary mode of offense.
Chikorita requires some support early game, but late game becomes a good defensive support with Body Slam, Reflect, and Light Screen through level-up. If you want to go pure offense with it, it'll suck and you're better off boxing it.

Fucking hell, I have no clue. My two favorite pokemon are Porygon and Shuckle; Porygon isn't until postgame and Shuckle isn't until like two thirds of the way through the game.

I think last time I played through GS I ran with a scyther and an umbreon, but I can't quite remember what else. It was pretty cool, but I wanna use other shit.
