For all the new jobs and flashy skills they added, every class feels the same. Every class has mobility, mobbing and good single target attacks now, whereas before bigbang each class felt drastically different. On top of that, each job advancement has skills covering all bases; mobbing, passive, single target, whatever. It's just a palette swap for each different class.

Victoria Island was changed completely. All the travel is now in the middle of the map (where the dungeon is), whereas before you had to go to Ellinia to get to Orbis, and Orbis was like the central airport for the whole world. Now, there are like 50 different places you can teleport to at the dungeon.

I remember i had a good time when Renegades came out on GMS.

Being the edgelord i was, i thought of FIRST making a Cygnus Knight to level to 120 as quickly as possible. As of then, you could still create Legend characters, or something; if you had a 120 ck, you could create a new Explorer at level 50, with evolving gear, and some extra skills and benefits.

Made a dark knight because legend warriors could summom dawn warriors' familiar of light, so it was fucking cool and became fucking Luminous before anybody else with dw and dk abilities

Ended up meeting a lot of people, even some biggies on the animation front. But alas, those times were gone by now.

I played it again kind of recently, and for all they've added, they really removed more than they put in. You level so fast, none of the low-level quests or items will even register for you. I used the same equipment for forty levels and only swapped my gear when enemies dropped better loot. There's none of the excitement or anticipation towards getting your second job. Can't recall if I made it to third job but I remember having a combo counter so they either moved combos down or I made it and it had no meaning to me.

New Maple Story is like a monkey's paw. You spent a lot of time wishing it didn't take ten hours of grinding to go from level 50 to level 51, so Nexon decided to grant players their wish. Not by fixing the level curve but by making Victoria Island and everything on it irrelevant within an hour of play.

It's so depressing. I remember playing Warrior and enjoying the mild animosity between classes set up by being from different towns. I used to go to the Elinia and dump out monster bags. East shit wizards.

The problem with Legends, Royals, Reboot and whatever else is that they've all been around for a while now, some people like it, some don't, we all know what we're getting and it's hard to get people interested. With an unreleased server, especially one with a lot of interesting features, there's something to look forward to.

If you're going to make a private server, make fucking sure you polish your source up as much as possible. Rien has a lot of hype but got ruined by all the crashes which resulted in rollbacks, and eventually people dropping the server. On top of that, their faggot programmer was always away when things went bad, even during the crucial launch period. Best you have neet programmers.

Another thing: you need a hyped launch. It's too difficult to climb the ladder if you start with a small playerbase, and those pussy SpyTales admins didn't want to invest a grain of effort in promoting their server circa launch week.

Will PurpleMS be the same? Maybe, who knows? It remains to be seen. All I know is that it's boasting a lot of promising features with excellent potential, so it's at least worth keeping an eye on.

Royals didn't start like a powerhouse; it had 50 players on daily for a good while before people started playing. Right now, the top 2 servers are v62 fucking borefests with HP washing and no plans to add new or interesting content. Now's as good a time as any for a sick v83 to take the mantle.
