You mean Lovecraftian? Bloodborne
>>

Lovecraftian horror isn't about killing creatures beyond human understanding with a cleaver

First of all not all parts of the Cthulhu Mythos are created by Lovecraft. Second Lovecraftian is a horror sub-genre. Third some parts of the Cthulhu Mythos aren't Lovecraftian.

For example Elder Gods aren't considered Lovecraftian but is party of the Cthulhu Mythos.

Also pic related is a giant anime robot in a Cthulhu Mythos story.

>>
>>385144610
There was Cthulu Mythos work by other authors IN LOVECRAFT'S LIFETIME, he even approved it and was friends with some of the authors.

that said Cthulu is a faggot and got his ass kicked by a steamboat. let alone what we could do to him today.
>>
>>385141567
Probably Dark Corners of the Earth. It's a bit old though.
>>
>>385143883
For something to be Lovecraftian it doesn't have to be made by Lovecraft. It just has to be influenced or inspired by it. etc. made it Lovecraft's image.

Anything concerning Cthulhu is Lovecraftian even if it isn't made by Lovecraft because all things in Cthulhu mythos are in attempt to imitate or emulate and expand upon Lovecraft's original work.
>>

Not directly but he's constantly referenced and I think you lose sanity if you get too close to his statue so that's... kind of in there
>>385145448
I've never heard of the hounds of tindalos or the space eaters in a video game

(Read Notebook found in a deserted house by Robert Bloch, it's the best mythos story)

Reminder that Deep Ones are oppressed by those racist white bigots and they did nothing wrong.
>>
>>385144997
They imply the same thing. Obviously if he didn't create parts of it then it's not originally from the mythos. And if those parts weren't originally part of it then obviously those parts don't originate from it.

And it's extremely well known that he publicly wanted people to borrow from his works much like he did himself.

>>
>>385145842
Mad much?

I promise you if August Derleth was still alive he would assure you that his Outer Gods (as Lovecraft himself created your Elder Gods and Great Old Ones) were written in Lovecraftian style.

I assume you've yet to read any of his writing and are arguing your point with no actual understanding, you've simply dug yourself too deep in this pointless argument and are hoping by being angry and absolute you can drive me away and assure yourself you're correct in your couchside assumptions.

Very well you've won this one. I cede.
>>
Incidentally I assume someone has played the Rimworld Lovecraft mods. Please tell me the details about starting a cultist colony, preferably with Rimjobworld so I can rape the sacrifices before using them. Assuming you can sacrifice people. I don't know shit about Rimworld mods please help.
>>
>>385147349
In none of his stories does anybody kill creatures on the same level as the Great Ones in bloodborne They are so powerful that just looking at them drives one insane. Only their followers and creatures like the deep ones are killed.
>>
>>385147760

>>385141567

>>
>>385147763
One of your boys will eventually turn into the first cultist and make a cult book, you use the book to make some kind of cultist research bench then you can name your cult and start recruiting people. You can choose who they worship and each eldritch god has different effects. Yes there's sacrifice, and you can also offer up food Cain and Abel style.
My boys are currently worshiping Dagon and have a bunch of Deep Ones defending an entrance
>>
Daily reminder that Derleth was a fucking hack that missed the entire point of Lovecraft's stories and just latched onto it because he didn't know any better.
>>
Fuck all y'all, where's my Dream Cycle game?
>>
>>385148912
Sounds kinda neat. Does the Lovecraft storyteller mod conflict with the cultist mod? I assume it doesn't ACTUALLY conflict, I meant more along the lines of "Lovecraft mod makes monsters and cultists come after you while cultist mod you can play the bad guy and try to sacrifice the entire planet" sort of a thing.
>>
>>385146264
that was better than it showing up as a boss battle like dagon
>>
>>385150297
Huh, never thought about that. The Lovecraft storyteller ramps up the danger, not necessarily just the monster raids. But it would make more sense to go with an easier storyteller if you want to play the bad guys

Jesus i need to read that run again
>>
>>385150618
Thanks, may do that then since my whole plan was to slap on some Lovecraft mods, Rimjobworld, and then go hostile to the entire planet and see how it pans out. Wasn't going to overly cheese traps or turrets so I was going to have to fight for myself unless/until I get monsters and stuff.
>>
Name a game that pulled off the lovecraftian vibe better than Morrowind
>>
>>385151008
I-I didn't know about Rimjobworld
Have fun capturing slaves and sacrificing them
I have a bunch of folk who have tentacles instead of arms/legs/eyes, it's pretty great.
If you're sacrificing for Deep One gold tho, watch out since it'll up your colony wealth value by a lot
Watch out for non-cultists in your colony, since they'll eventually try to cleanse your cultists
>>
>>385152478
That's cool, didn't realize your cultists could mutate. Actually knew relatively little about the Lovecraft mods since they seem kind of poorly documented, which was why I was asking about 'em in here.

Can you try to force cultist conversions on people, or does it just sorta naturally happen? Trying to go completely hostile and even then only having a fluctuating number of loyal characters might be rough.
>>
>>385152810
Sorry man, I don't remember if you can force conversion. Although you can definitely do it through the developer console if you want to.
...I think

>>
>>385153071
Nah, wouldn't wanna outright cheat it. I'll just dick around with it when the time comes and hope for the best. Thanks again for telling me about the mods though. Occasionally find people who've played Rimworld but no one who had tried any of those mods before.

>>
>>385147349
Not him, but let's go over it.
Cthulhu gets rammed by a boat which disturbed his projection enough that he goes back to sleep.
In the mountains of madness mc can't do shit against the creatures.
Colour out of time has the superpowers wacking each other with mc and people in general being irrelevant.
Colour out of space has people become afflicted with space aids that mc kills and ultimately the space horror fucks off on it's own accord.
Shadow over insmouth has mc run to get the cops, but the fish people ain't getting arrested (lol).
Rats in the walls, mc goes insane.

The Dunwich Horror was the one where they really kick elederich ass, but it's an exception. As they for the most part disrupt it's manifestation rather than fight it for real.

Cosmic horror themes can have combat if you're fighting the cultists or limited manifestations.
But you can't be assraping the other gods 1v1.
>>
>>385154302
>Colour out of time has the superpowers wacking each other with mc and people in general being irrelevant
It's Shadow out of Time and the guy writing to protag kills a bunch of Mi-Gos with a rifle. Also he buys some hunting dogs who also kill a Mi-Go or two?

There's also the story of Charles Dexter Ward, that story about a reptilian doctor who gets shot with a Luger...
> the fish people ain't getting arrested
Actually the forces raid Insmouth and kill lots of them and drive the others out, they even deep-bomb Devil's Reef but they didn't hit the real city.
>>
>>385147534
Isn't even a good game.
>>
>>385153605
Haha right? Or how about the time they beat Cthulu by hitting him with a boat?
Or that time an otherworldly being helped that doctor defeat Joseph Curwen?
Or that part in bloodborne where it pretty much directly states that you don't actually meet any actual great ones, only aspects of them projected into a form we can somewhat comprehend?
Oh wait those don't fit your shitty conflated bait example oh fuck sorry my bad
>>
>>385154561

>>
>>385154561

>>
>>385142717
Kil yourself retard.
>>
>>385143365
>>385142717
Bloodborne is partially Lovecraft inspired, it doesn't adapt anything from Lovecraft and Cthulhu isn't even in the fucking game. Fuck off retards.
>>
>>385155158
No, it's a short story, can't remember the title but it was about some doctor who tried to turn itself into some kind of weird reptilian creature because reptiles live very long. I think protag buys his house, then discovers he's sharing it with... something, finds his notes, I think the doctor lived in the well. Anyway, it ends when protag magdumps the reptilian guy. Lovecraft actually liked firearms, had a small collection and liked to shoot them.

>>385155415
That's because I mistitled it, was talking about Whisperer in the Darkness obviously.
>>
>>385155946
I don't think I've read that one. I have read something similar to it but it's a mermaid/siren thing giving the trouble.
>>
>>385155831
Nobody claimed it was an adaptation, anon. And thematically Cthulu is represented by Erbritas
>>

>>

No. And even if that was the case Bloodborne has no Cthulhu or Cthulhu mythos in it.
>>
>>385155946
>>385156427

Nope, that's Cool Air.
>>
>>385141567

>>
>>385156861
>>385156740
I said thematically, not literally. She works in the shadows, manipulating the church with information about the greater cosmos, helping to erect the church and choir to further the goals of the great ones. Cthulu's defining trait was also slow, plodding manipulation through visions sent to the weak minded and the sensitive. The only difference is that Erbritas doesn't use small cults to accomplish her goals, she uses the church.
>>
I wish lovecraft had more works with canibalism, it works so well with his themes.
Rats in the walls and the picture in the house were both top notch.

>>
>>385158497
Which part of that wasn't explicitly stated in text, retard kun?
>>
>>385147349
Yaeh because Innsmouth was massacred by the protagonist at the end right?

Bloodborne is a good game but it isn ot lovecraftian.

Lovecraft wasn't about scary monsters, it was about the horros of the unknown and forbidden knowledge. The protagonist in that story Finds out he is one of the monsters and instead of commiting suicide decides to join them

Fucking 11 year olds keep thinking Lovecraft = scary monsters.
>>
>>385159646
It was massacred by the US Army, actually.
>>
>>385159372
pretty much the entirety of it
>>
>>385159718
Yeah but that wasn't the point of the story nor did it matter since the Esoteric Cult of Dagon had already spread out of the city. Sure the monsters could be killed but they were still scary and what made them scary wasn't necessarily their physical looks.

I don't think Lovecraftian horror translates well into video games since games are such a visual medium. Lovecraftian horror comes from the dread of learning something or doing something forbidden by nature/god/the universe.
>>
>>385160270

You underage faggots make me sick.
Go play it, hell it even got a remastered edition on steam that added a third person mode(was in first) and a hint mode for babys first time adventure/click gamers.
>>
To do lovecraft in a game properly you need to actually apply his conventions to stories.
Try to keep the supernatural aspect ambiguous and try to science away things even if it doesn't quite fit.
Unreliable narration, insanity and focussing on a single view point, storytelling from retrospective.
Alienation, other characters should only rarely be sympathetic or relatable to the mc.
The monsters (when they appear) are scary because of their implications and apparent existence beyond normal logic and rational rather than by being unstoppable.
>>
>>385162205
Yeah his writing wouldn't actually make a good game imo. When people say a lovecraft game they just mean sanity mechanics and creepy monsters.
>>
>>385144945

But that is literally her purpose in the story. I didn't say she was evil, or lying, or even fully sapient, but the Choir canonically use Erbritas to glean information on the Great Ones. I suppose using the word "manipulate" could be a little strong, but she is the scion through which the choir gets their information. The main difference is that Miyizaki doesn't see the Great Ones as evil, whereas Lovecraft implied a sinister aspect to them.

Well that's basically everything the Church was involved in. Did you actually pay attention while playing the game? Did you actually play the game? You think Micolash and his group trying to rip holes in our reality through to the dream wasn't verboten? That the church wasn't performing abominable acts in the name of science? Of course the gameplay isn't Lovecraftian, but the backstory of the world is Lovecraftian as fuck, filled with cabals and cults performing twisted shit to try and cosy up to creatures they can't fathom.

Besides, Whisperer in the Darkness had one man holding off the Mi-go with a rifle and some dogs. And you can't say the player fought any actual great old ones or whatever the fuck they called them, Ebrietas being a little girl and the Orphan a literal babby. Only one with any real power was the Moon Presence and that can be justified by the player only fighting them when they're beginning to undergo squiddification themselves.
