Typically an anime style scythe's main ability to damage would be either from "hooking" an enemy from behind or using it like a pickax.
There do exist proper war scythes in reality, but they act more like pole weapons as the blade is re-attached to form a spear shaped weapon rather than an exaggerated farming tool shaped weapon.

The blade positioning isn't even the worst part. NO PART of a farming scythe is conducive to be used as a weapon. The blades are typically paper thin and flimsy, because they're essentially large shaving razors. They would not hold an edge against targets harder than their intended one, and grass isn't notorious for being a thick or heavily armored target. A scythe blade would have a hard time cutting through thin denim, let alone ANY kind of protective equipment. The other issue is they they wouldn't be particularly useful for piercing with because of the long curved blade- the closest comparisons would be warpicks, which have pretty short, stout, and relatively straight strike surfaces.

Other problems:
Scythe blades aren't very strongly affixed to their hafts.
Improper weight distribution for fighting.
Most scythe blades are actually offset from the haft, making those really precise cuts you would NEED to try and make nearly impossible.
A large amount of scythes don't have straight hafts, because they're used with the hip.

I like cool and unique weapons but I have to suspend my disbelief. Honestly the only weapons throughout history that ever mattered were polearms, bows/crossbows and firearms. Swords, scythes axes and boomerangs are all only useful in fantasy.

But that doesn't matter because most boomerangs aren't even meant to kill things, the autrailians used more pratical weapons for that. But the sound of the boomerangs slashing against thousands of blades of tall grass was used to startle quarry. Using boomerangs to kill was not an expectation.

Even if you want you death elbow to come back, if you throw it at your target it will land the side of which you rotated the boomerang. i.e. if you throw it so its turning counterclockwise with your right hand it will land on your right. You'd have to throw it at like an angle for it to come back to you proper, which means that unless you're a real hardcore hunter you're not aiming for the target.

The issue lies in the fact that, like the Keyblade, it is outclassed by even the most basic of blunt weapons that are all cheaper, easier to use, and easier find.

I liked Dante's inferno alot. Sure it was a pretty shameless god of war rip off gameplay wise, but the setting and the atmosphere were top notch and it had some memorable boss fights. I'll always remember the shock of seeing Satan's dick in the second phase of the last boss.
