>item has a 10% chance to drop

but that's statistically impossible, you only need to kill 10 enemies for a 100% drop dumbass.

I was sperging out and going for the platinum in Demon's Souls, this one upgrade item took around 8 hours to get enough of. I wanted to kill myself after...but then I did it again for 2 more upgrade paths.

>>385133861
there's a 10% chance to get it every kill. That means every time you kill the enemy it has a 10% chance to drop the item. The game gives you the 1/10 chance every time you kill the enemy, so it's possible that you never will actually get the item, because there's always 90% chance to not get it

the 10% probability means that ON AVERAGE you will need 10 tries to get the item, but it's also possible that you get in your first attempt or after a hundred attempts
>>385134137
Sorta related, the US versions of Fire Emblem games make to-hit rolls on a normal distribution to make people feel better. When it says 70% it actually means 90+%, and when it says 30% it means <10%. That's why Fire Emblem threads are never filled with WTF I MISSED AN 80% CHANCE TO HIT like XCOM threads.
>>385134897
Yeah they are full of WTF THAT ENEMY HAD A 1% CHANCE TO CRIT AND KILLED MY UNIT

lmao what a whiny cunt, I would have loved to be the one who won that roll to hear him cry.
There's 25 people in the raid and he starts throwing a hissy fit threatening to stop streaming or give him mod in his chat (what a shitty fucking incentive)

I have my entire party decked out in adaman armor. There's a trick to dealing with these enemies that makes it possible to farm pink tails.Fuck you for posting a shitty "enhanced" port though. You can get them the hard way.
You only need to kill like 9, tops.

There are no version differences in the RNG. The first game that lies about hit rates is FE6, which was never released outside Japan.
>>385135705
>implying that's my screenshot

Question /v/: what would happen if the game gave you an option to buy every super-rare item, but it required absurd amounts of money? Like in Megaman Legends 2, you can bypass doing a really difficult quiz and get the zetsabre quick, but it costs 2 million zenny. Think that would alleviate the drop rate issue, or do you think it trivializes it?
>>385134770
>get a rare and expensive item
>can't trade it on the market
>look up the market
>there's copies of it on the market>buy one on a rare cheap sale that undercut the rest for a test
>can't fucking resell that either
>>385136158
I like the system where you can trade in a fuckton of common drops from the monster for rarer drops from the monster on top of having rare drops still in place, makes grinding still worth it cause you either work toward x amount of stuff to trade or happen to get the rare thing.
>>385132734
Nice Bait
(You)
>>385136418
That's a good system,i agree with you. Can't think of any examples off the top of my head, except for TF2's weapon reskin system, where you trade a bunch of low tier reskins for a higher tier one.

there's roughly a 0.008% chance of not getting the drop in the first 89 enemies. Not impossible but OP has the right to be irked.

>nothing wrong with the PSP version
Except it looks like it was designed in RPG Maker, and has an even worse localization than the SNES version.
Have fun farming those pink tails at a rate of 1 per week. It took me all of a few hours to get 5 of them.
>>385136575
SEGA, and Sonic Team when they actually made other games than Sonic
Phantasy Star Online was a great game but the grind for the rarest and best of the best was obscenely retarded. Makes games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse's drop chances seem paltry in comparison.

>>385136029
I'm feeling generous, so I'll share my farming secrets with you. But please do consider playing a better version of the game. SE is incredibly lazy about "enhanced" ports and remasters, and no one should be giving their money to the company at this point, because that only further encourages them to continue shitting on some otherwise great games.
Step 1: Farm some alerts from those eye-bot foes you encounter in earlier dungeons, like the Giant of Babil. I think I farmed about 30 since I was impatient, but it's recommended you get as many as possible. When used, the item draws you into the rarest battle formation for that map. Obviously, this will be useful for encountering flan princesses.
Step 2: Farm any of the elemental attack items like LitBolt, FireBomb or whatever your translation calls them. Edge can steal them from a multitude of foes. Get dozens of them. They hit all foes, and their damage is based on their user's max HP, which means having a character like Cecil use them results in damage in the thousands.
Step 3: Quick-save at the save point just before the final stretch of the Lunar Subterrane. It's a short back-track to the room where the flans are encountered.
Step 4: Make sure you've level grinded enough to be in the 60s or 70s. Higher is better.
Step 5: Make sure Cecil is wearing his crystal equipment so he'll be immune to berserk status. You can't get this resistance on anybody else in your party, since it's exclusive to Cecil's equipment.
Onto the battle: The flan princesses start off by berserking everybody except Cecil. A couple of other party members might escape berserk status as well. Have all non-berserked characters spam LitBolts, FireBombs, etc. in rapid succession. The flan princesses should drop in just a few turns. Rinse and repeat about a dozen times, then soft reset if there are no results. (so you don't waste your limited quantity of alerts)
Bam. You'll see several pink tails drop within just a few hours.
>>385132459
>10% chance to drop
