No more hide and seek simulators
Keep jumpscares unpredictable and sparse
No more zombies or ghosts
More deep sea stuff
>>
>>385131917
You can't. Horror relies on so many predictable tropes that it's completely worthless.

deep sea shit is always scary. do more with that
>>

I like it when they make it sexy. BUENOS DIAS MANDY!
>>
>>385132751
I'd love a horror deep sea game
>>
Focus more on unsettling atmosphere and fear of the unknown instead of "WHOA THERE'S THE SPOOKY MONSTER ALSO YOU HAVE NO CONTROL NOW."
>>
>>385132774
Bueno Noches mein Fuhrer
>>
>>385133184

Horror across the board needs to do this. Vidya, movies, shows, books - all of them need to. I've never been able to get into the genre because it's ALWAYS the latter.
>>
Let the horror games fuck around with the players, like the game closing itself, volume control, "delete" save data, etc, and satanic stuff, lots of satanic stuff.

basically SOMA

and it's good
>>
>>385133286
No it doesn't. Something can be scary while still being interactive.
A jump scare here or there is fine, but the anticipation is the actually scary part. It's called being kept in suspense.

More "The Shining" and less "Paranormal Activity". Psychological horror with a foe you know too well and don't really want to hurt beats out DUDE LOUD NOISES AND SPOOPY DEMONS LMAO
>>
>>385133791
Exactly, we need more games like it.
>>
I came up with this gimmick a while back, where most actions can be done in two ways: holding the button, or mashing it.
Holding is more slow, quiet, and careful, while mashing is faster but louder.
If you're opening a door you can hold to peak in before fully opening it or if you're being chased you can mash to throw it open and charge through quickly.
Applying first aid? If you have the time to do it properly you get a better heal, but sometimes you only have a second to haphazardly throw some bandages on to keep yourself together.
Things of that general nature. I'm imagining it in context of an open worldish spooky monsters scenario.
Thoughts?
>>
No "deepest lore". Place atmosphere, tension, all that good stuff over some retarded plot twist to jerk off Game Theory.
>>
>>385131917

>>
>>385133957
Fuck, wrong pic.

I meant something like this. Imagine a game that pretty much let you walk around a desolate world with VERY few NPCs/monsters and relied solely on creepy ambience and surreal views, like a much more unsettling-focused 3D Yume Nikki or something.
>>
>Came up with a horror game idea that's actually really good and incredibly unique

I'm terrified someone's going to beat me to it though.

Another pic to sorta get the idea. This guy's art has a creepy feel to it that'd be pretty much perfect for a surreal horror game.
>>
>>385134339
>3D Yume Nikki
Scariest game ever
>>
>>385134339
trying to find the same kind of game actually, it's really hard...

I've just played the first Doorways and the team looks like they can manage to come to this (but it costs waaaay to much for 1h of gameplay and the second one is shit, meh...)
>>
Just make a game where something really loud and spooky is chasing you and when you die you just listen to gory sound effects and screams like if you are being eaten alive.
>>
>>385134028
Wow you should totally get that made. That sounds awesome. Amazing job, thinking that up.

I'm surprised it's not been done before (aside from that one project), ambient horror is fucking terrifying. Not everything needs to be scary monsters chasing you/jumpscaring you.

The problem with horror games are those kids that look the gameplay from youtube or learn the gameplay tricks beforehand and then boast how it wasn't scary nor surprising at all
think that over half of /v/ users do the same
>>
>>385136253
Problem with horror games today is they're made with the intention to be viewd by twitch and popular youtuber's loyal fanbase
>>
>>385135925
I really liked it, a lot of excellent visual effects and wtf moments

but wait for a sale because it's 20€ and it's kinda short (3-4h first play-through)
>>
>>385135925
It's a walk around and see the spooks game. Just watch the first ten or twenty minutes on youtube and you'll have a good idea of what the whole thing is.

>Deep Sea
Deep Sea shit is boring. Oh no, you were instantly crushed to death by the immense pressure, where nothing lives except for scavengers because it's so cold, dark, and intense. Time to spend the entire game in absolute darkness moving at a speed of 10 feet a minute! Sounds riveting!
>>
>>385136965
Yes, isn't that scary enough for you?

Five Nights at Freddy 1 basically, that is what made that game great in the first place.

The fear of the unknown and shit like that.

Then it went ded when he milked the fuck out of the franchise.

>>
>>385139110
I am and that is why that game had a great effect on me, fuck chucky cheese and those niggers animals.

You cant deny that the game was decent and refreshing when it came out.

>DUDE GHOST KIDS AND BLOODY MESSAGES LMAO
>>
>>385139432
I still recall when we were discussing the theory of how the game took place in the future in some type of cyberpunk future or some stupid shit like that.

Also that stream of the guy who tried to the ultimate nightmare challenge or some shit like that in the bonus nights where Freddy was unpredictable, that fucker streamed almost 24 hours
>>
>>385139110
The only bad thing about FNAF1 was how bullshit the game could get from night 4-5, dying so much kills the player being afraid and makes the game a chore, and the absolutely fucking awfull community of furries and autists.
>>
not horror, but nothing in vidya has scared me more than coasting open water in Subnautica and looking down at deep, limitless blue and nothing else.

>>385138015

>>
>>385139637
yes and?

>>
>>385139110

It might have a cancerous fan base and gotten milked for more cash, but the first game was genuinely creepy. Nobody had made a game like that and there's a whole generation of us that probably spent a decent amount of time at a ChuckeCheese kind of place.

Good idea, but it was executed in a way that ended up turning me off to it.
>>
Never played FNaFs. Well, I'll just watch Markiplier play it
>>
>>385140489

This. The first game was a breath of fresh air in horror games. It was genuinely creepy, had a great atmosphere and it was a short and pleasant experience. Hell, it was even /v/ lovechild with tons of OC. Then it somehow became a preteen horror with screaming youtubers pandering to it with sequels milking it dry and the worst fucking """"lore"""" ever concieved by man.
