Why does /v/ hate pixel art indie game?
95% of the time it's for an unnecessary "retro" feel
5% of the time it's done right, like Shovel Knight

i just got sick of it. it lost its charm, but I do know indie developers do it because of budget, so I don't blame them. but now you really have to standout against all the other 100 steam pixel games.
Because it's usually horrible garbage like this made by some mong too cheap to hire an art guy instead of something made by someone who understands the craft.
because it's generally an excuse for shitty talentless creators and not metal slug sexiness
I don't. As long as the gameplay's good there's no problem unless the graphics are offensively bad or something. Other people hate them because they need something to whine about and indie games are an easy target.

Fpbp.
Most indie games are just like "lol, le pixels! So retro!", but Shovel Knight actually had a focused art direction to specifically emulate the limitations of authentic NES graphics.
I don't. I hate minimal effort junk that would look primitive even on NES, yet indie devs feel they deserve money for it.
/v/ hates all games, why should pixel art indie's be any different?
>Pixel art is based off of one resolution
>Background elements based off of another
>Sprites go off-grid
>Lighting isn't per-pixel
>Other effects aren't pixel based
They're just lazy.
a poor excuse to not invest on art direction
