Why do people call the singleplayer mode in western games a "Campaign" now?
shooter games started doing it and so it stuck
there's lots of stupid marketing speak jargon that just stuck into gaming vernacular because gaming journalists kept using it.
Terms like "media consumption", "SKUs", "titles", etc.
"Campaign" usually refers to a single-player mode with a story. A clear beginning, climax and end.
A game like Tetris, Fifa, etc, can't really be said to have a "campaign".

8 year olds whose only experience vidya was cod started it. There was the campaign, and then the actual game. People thought the main campaign of skyrim was a bit lacking, so because people are retarded, campaign can also mean main quests

Shit loads of games do it these days where as before it was restricted to FPS stuff like CoD where the term actually made sense. Why is the singleplayer for nuDoom labelled as campaign? It only really makes sense in the context of a war game like CoD.
