You've got a bunch of abilities like an attack that varies from character to character, a sprint/dodge that varies for each character, throwing, and jumping (which has different properties for each character), and a hitbox around you (so if a bigger character with a large hitbox runs up to a tiny motherfucker the tiny guy is fucked and such). And you're trying to get the ball in the enemies pyre.

There isn't any combat, you're playing weird tribal religious basketball.

There's a ball in the middle, you control a team of 3 (multiple races/classes with different abilities and control styles to choose from), you try to get the ball in the opponent's pyre and stifle their flame.

It controls kind of like a twin stick shooter, on defense you have an aura that can knock out attackers or you can hit them with a laser beam, on attack you have several different dodge moves and stuff that very by race.

It's kind of hard to explain, it plays kind of like NBA Jam but at a more "action RPG" pace.

This game is fucking amazing. I did not expect the gameplay itself to be as much fun as it is, but looking at it, and playing it is two completely different experiences. There is a lot of hidden intrigue, depth and buildup to the combat, I already like where it is going. And this is coming from someone who hates sport games with a passion

Also the OST is probably the best Supergiant has made so far. It's absolutely fucking stellar, and I have only heard like 10% of it

So, what are your best players at the moment? I just got to the Sea of Solis, I like the fast ones, Rukey is great, That little bird imp also has potential. It's a good escape if you're about to get caught by someones aura. You can also sprint and then switch, the character that was sprinting will keep moving for a moment but with an aura, you can use that to clear a path.
Bringing up multiple people at the same time is going to be good to divide their attention.

Not feeling it right now, enjoyed Bastion and Transistor a lot more so far

There's just so much non-gameplay. It's like reading a VN or playing Oregon Trail. 75% of your time is spent talking to people or deciding where to go. The remaining 25% is Rites which are okay I guess? I'm not really sure what I'm doing, the thing is just so bizarre, but I haven't lost yet. It's super easy but I don't feel like bumping up the difficulty since I have no idea what I'm actually doing

The narration is seen as the highlight but in reality, as cool as it is, it's just something that allows you to get the story as you're playing the game instead of the story interrupting you.

The point of Bastion was that everyone lost something they treasured, but they had to get over it. Zulf's attempt to restore his world almost got him killed by his own people. Sure he's left wondering how it came to be, but he eventually realizes there's no way to go but onwards.
Restoration would make him go through the same pain of losing what he loved over and over again. He needed someone to snap him out of the cycle before it began.
Zulf himself admits he fucked up and that he's glad the Kid saved him before his choice got him killed.

Why do matches feel like mini games? They are so simple and short, and then I have to go through dialogues which, desu, are not so captivating.

So what do people think of the game so far?
In the big 4 things SG have: Gameplay, Story, Narration, and OST. Where they are generally much more competent with the latter than the former.

There's a lot of development to it in terms of different mastery trees, just straight different abilities and behaviors of the races and the varying moves you have interacting with the orb or without it, plus terrain that mixes it up and special effects that enemies throw at you when they get low.

Not sure how to feel about Demon. Can be very powerful but also very easy to get outplayed and bamboozled. Wyrm seems like Cur on steroids.

I felt like Hedwyn was pretty great from the start honestly, balanced isn't bad in this. Savage seems like more of a technical style but can be hard to do against certain opponents. I really like Imp.
