Never played the first game before. Tried this on PS4. It really is just Borderlands with always online, but with more boring generic designs.
On the upside it at least has more than one active skill.

Something about the feel of the game feels off and I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly. The shooting is still solid though.

Couple reasons number one is it's plain cheaper and easier because they don't have to spend more time making separate changes. Another reason is Activision is their publisher and their whole formula is CoD based, it's not about what makes he best game possible but what sells DLC

It's not just that the game was shallow as a fucking puddle when it came to content, the idea of taking what little they gave you and dumping it in the trash so that they can slap a 2 on more of the same fucking shit pisses me off so much.

Honestly, what do people think is actually changing here? The graphics and gameplay look exactly the fucking same, the story content is literally just another expansion a la Rise of Iron or Taken King.

This is just more Activision shilling making everyone pay full retail for another spoonfull of highly polished shit, and I'm done with the franchise.

I call bullshit on that, they clearly said that the game itself was going to be a ten year thing made possible by the xbone being a w10 box (or at least close enough to it where they could just keep adding content WoW style). But even if it was just the franchise as a whole D1 sucked and it sucked bad. The story was nonexistent which made the raids as boring as dungeon running was in Skyrim. There's no reason to return to D2 when it's just going to be the same thing.

I never expected an RPG out of Destiny but I expected something more than a closed loop shooter.

Preordered for PC. Destiny is a pretty shallow series but I got my money's worth out of it, I wouldn't say it was a waste. Having said that, I felt like Destiny 1 could have been so much more, an actually great game. Instead it was an okay game which was good for killing time every now and then.

Overall, I'm not super hyped for Destiny 2 but I'm sure I'll get a lot of hours out of it.
From what I've gathered from console players they seem to hate the beta.

I enjoyed Destiny 1, at least some of it. Judging by this beta, and it is absolutely fair to do that, Destiny 2 is garbage. They learned nothing. They doubled down on the god awful versus multiplayer instead of making a better game and expanding the parts that were actually good. It looks and feels the exact same in a bad way, not because Destiny 1's gameplay and visuals were bad, but because it was never fully realized. It could have been so much more and this sequel was their chance to really go the extra mile and live up to the potential. And it completely fails to do that in any way. It is also clearly going to be lacking content again, possibly even having less than the first game at launch. While that game kept me entertained off and on for months, I never bought any of the expansions and eventually it did wear thin so I dropped it entirely and never looked back. I most likely won't even buy this, it's possibly the laziest sequel I've ever seen, and that's quite a feat coming from Activision.

I honestly see this game flopping. Even the hardcore Destiny base seems to be shitting on it big time. Atleast Destiny 1 took some months before people realized was shit.

I started playing Destiny 1 during the middle of Y2.
So I only had like 4-5 months to play before the whole legacy thing.

I had alot of fun, more so than most games atleast. so I'll either get the game at launch or wait for the expansion to "fix" the game's issue of lacking content.

Fucking terrible. This game will be even less fun than Destiny 1 at launch. Everything about it is lesser.

Thinking about cancelling my pre-order.

They've sucked all the fun out of the game in the name of delivering a "balanced" PVP experience that plays like slow dogshit.

Abilities suck now AND the recharge rate is fucked. I get reducing their power level or recharge rate as T5 abilities in D1 were easy as shit to use as recharged in like 20ish seconds, but doing both just makes the game feel like any other shooter.

The current meme in the community about this is that "gunskill matters now!". The game needed to incentivize more primary fights, so it sounds like a good idea...but they've fucked that up too. TTK has been slowed down across the board by about 60% from an already relatively slow TTK in D1. If you are in an outnumbered situation, you basically can't hit get an angle on one of them and hit an optimal TTK and then still have time to make some sort of play on the second person. They always have time to get over. Team Shots are KING in D2 and engagements don't feel as rewarding as a result.

They also took away the mobility options the first game gave you, probably because you would literally never be able to kill anyone with the slower TTK if you could move like you could in D1, but mobility was a massive part of the skill ceiling in D1 and it's removal makes for a game that feels far less unique. It doesn't help that they've removed subclass customization too, locking you to two pre-defined paths and taking away like a third of the perks from the old subclasses.

Just a huge step backwards. I was a huge Destinyfag and I wanted a more balanced, improved game that built on the things D1 did right. D2 is just them doing a different thing entirely. Reminds me a lot of Dark Souls 2.

Is it even worth it if I couldn't stand Borderlands because it felt like Gearbox taking badly copied Halo vehicle physics and really shitty shooting and shitting it into a 60 box?

I think he was reacting to the fact that it wasn't the last DLC (that was Rise of Iron in Spt 2016). And it wasn't "years later." It was one year later, it was the comet expansion released in Spt. 2015 that was supposed to be the only big release before Destiny 2, but then they delayed that another year and needed another stop-gap, thus, Rise of Iron.

You're right that the locations, story, lore, everything was already existent when they launched Destiny 1 and probably only cut it out because of the story debacle of late 2013. Now with the Cabal invasion of 2017 and the Osiris/Vex themed dlc they're releasing in Dec/Jan, it looks like we're finally catching up to what they thought they'd be able to release by Sept 2015 in pic related.
