If music puzzles are too simple you might as well not include them at all. But then you're forcing people to understand music theory or fuck around tinkling keys for 40 minutes.

Depends on what you mean. In Undertale you literally just have to copy 8 notes which are told to you. Really the puzzle in this scenario was finding the notes.

Yes. People who suck at making music should not be rewarded.

I guess it depends on the execution.
Playing a few notes on piano in Undertale was fine.
Breath of Fire II's drum rhythm minigame to learn Boombada was not fine.
