Just finished the Digital Devil Saga duology. How did /v/ feel these titles compared to other Megami Tensei games?
Good mix of dungeon crawling to story telling
Story was not bad but wasn't a fan of the whole IT WAS A VIRTUAL REALITY WORLD kinda spiel that pulled. I actually really hate that twist in general and i think it stems from Star Ocean 3
They're my favorite of the MegaTen franchise. Solid gameplay and the dark, dreary atmosphere of SMT mixed with a more character-driven narrative, which I prefer to something loose like Nocturne.
Good at first, fun to REND SLAUGHTER DEVOUR YOUR ENEMIES but eventually just became a slog and not that fun for me
I like 1 more than 2 but I wish it had a hard mode because it gets stupid easy if you do all the content. The final boss is a joke.
Great game though, imo the best games for newbies to learn the smt battle system from since it's lacks fusion and has more of a FF style party
I havent played them but they say they're the entry level games if you want to start get into the SMT franchise
the only SMT game I've played is SJ and I'm stuck trying to defeat a boss
They're harder and more refined than Nocturne, but the plot completely flew over my head. I wish every dungeon was designed like DDS2's final dungeon, closer to SJ and EO, but that's just my autism though.

Almost better than Nocturne but the gameplay is slightly worse.
Some of the worse MT games I've played, not to say they're bad, but I just thought they were lackluster compared to the other games, especially DDS2.

Lack of an enemy encounter gauge is a really stupid oversight on their part.
