I really want to explore Persona as a whole and future installments as well as dig deeper into the Megami Tensei franchise as the only games I played besides Persona 5 in this franchise is Digital Devil Saga 1+2, Nocturne and Strange Journey. Sorry you didn't like it, maybe the hopefully updated version "Persona 5 Crimson" or even Persona 6 will be more up your alley.

That's cool, I suggest you to play SMTIV (godly soundtrack) SMTIVA, Strange Journey, Nocturne, DeSU 1 & 2 and Soul Hackers.

They pretty cool with some difficulty, don't expect the anime tropes as you said (except maybe for DeSU 2), but you're definitely gonna enjoy them. P3 was my favorite, could be hard for you since you played P5 first, and P4 is too light-hearted but good game regardless.
