Plenty. There's one being quoted in the image. Problem is most people who do shit like want to test consumer grade audio equipment, especially useless crap like cable lifts, are audiophiles and so their opinions are useless.

Some are alright and understand that there is no such thing as perfection, audio is very subjective and audiophile crap is a waste of money. I vaguely remember there being a double blind study that pitted enormously expensive audiophile speaker cables against coat hanger wire and nobody could tell the difference, not even the self professed audiophiles.

Headsets and earphones are not the problem, having them too loud is.

Turning the volume up is not the right way to block background noise, closed headphones or canal or other types of in-ear phones are.
>>

I have a lot of noise where I live, so a pair of closed headphones is the best for me.

headphones are like VR headsets, the sound is right in your ears, mostly blocking out other sounds being more immersive and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO WEAR

still better than listening through speakers though

can't wait until the matrix is real so I can plug my brain in a computer and listen to music in my head, maximum immersion, maximum comfort, maximum won't happen in my lifetime

I've been trying to decide on a headset for months. I just don't have enough context for what I'm looking at. And the voice acting friend I was assigned, much like their gender, only helps to confuse matters.

This.
I am actually kind of an audiophile. I worked for years in lighting and sound around a 150k speaker set up. It left me unable to deal with shitty sound quality. However, there is a real limit beyond which people are just spending money on rubbish and telling themselves the like the way it sounds. Good quality stuff genuinely makes a difference and some things like speaker placement and room acoustics make a big one, however, spending money on shit like cable lifts is just stupid.
My headphones have a frequency response of 5-40, average human hearing barely runs of 20. Manufacturers do this crap because people are obsessed with numbers, so a higher frequency response is supposed to be better - provided you have a dogs hearing.
>>
>>385099029
Also you sort of have to train your ears too and actually get them checked out by a doc to make sure you don't have shit hearing.

The foam can be cleaned on a slight flame from a lighter which will only ignite the earwax and grease that's build up in it and leave the foam nice and disinfected.

No, its not for you. Its in the 250-300 dollar range, period. For that price you can get headphones with pretty much perfectly balanced and natural presentation, like sennheiser HD600, AKG 612, Hifiman HE-400i and the like. There is absolutely no reason to pay any more than that for headphones.

That being said you wont get great sound from a motherboard audio-out, just grab some cheap headphone DAC/amp with decent reviews and you're good to go.

Better headphones make a terrible source (like onboard audio) even more obvious. Still, basically any even half way decent headphones will see an improvement from a real soundcar or dad/amp, it will just be more pronounced on quality gear.

Sounds like my current setup, settled with Vmoda boompro + X2 as a daily driver.
Love the large soundstage + thumpy bass for FX, its comfortable to wear for long sessions albeit a little heavy.
Find it a little lacking for music though.

I have MSR7 as a closed alternative for music with better treble and tighter bass, but it is not very comfortable and soundstage is pretty narrow sticks out like a sore thumb.
Got me curious and tempted to try out audio technician's air series. But those don't have a 3.5mm jack to easily switch between headphones.

Fuck, I don't want to open a god damn headphone museum.

headphone pad check is clear after probably a year and a half of not thinking about it. feels good. make sure you wash your ears boys.

Depending on the type of headphones you have, you can take out the pads and clean them separately, use a lint roller to get rid of any shit you have on the surface, then soak them in water and scrub and squeeze the dirt out. As for the plastic, use a slightly wet cloth to lightly clean the plastic parts of your headphones.
And for cleaning solution
>Dish washing soap or Laundry detergent for the pads
>A little bit of baking soda for the plastic

You do realize that soundproof walls just greatly reduce sound but don't completely stop it, right? Low frequencies in particular still resonate in this kind of wall. So if you want sound quality on par with headsets, it's probably going to be audible to your neighbours.

Not everyone wants to be a shitty neighbour.

Try a more open headphone design. I agree with you on speakers (though preference is subjective), but a good set up costs at least $800 and as mentioned in the thread, you can't really crank it unless you live nowhere and you have to do positioning.

You need to clean them to maintain sound quality anyway. You end up with small hairs on the drum that distort sound.

>>
>>385103637
Jesus
That low, constant buzz and vibration is unbearable and migraine-inducing
>>
>>385107147
Not quite, the driver is the central component that actively vibrates, the drum is a very thin plastic layer that sits directly above the driver.

So in the related picture, on the bottom row the translucent layer is the drum, whereas the central part beneath it the driver per se. This translucent drum has many contours and ridges, spiralling out of the centre, which trap dust and hairs.

You need to properly disassemble the earpiece to get at it, and then use a fine brush on the drum (for example, a very soft new paint brush, with a thin end and few bristles).

You can refer to IF's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBpic9jbjzs
for disassembly instructions. Once the diaphragm is out you can clean it.

Naturally, be careful, the diaphragm is delicate.
