Squad might not be a sandbox, but it has much better PVP.

from the netcode to vehicle physics, the great VOIP System, the complete lack of a killfeed, the community which for the great majority uses mics, the large and well designed maps, it's the far superiour PVP game.
Stuff like this is also in Arma, but only in small closed communities, I'm going to claim that most people that say Arma is superiour have never been in a Milsim group though. Regardless, public servers in Arma are beyond dogshit.
Stuff like backblast Simulation or the need for a forward observer when using mortars makes Squad more realistic than Vanilla Arma.
If you want to play a realistic military shooter get Squad, if you want to eat shit and play on public servers or LARP in milsim groups get Arma.

Arma 3 is the best coop game ever (no player cap and
virtually unlimited amount of ai), with mediocre pvp.

You can play squad and enjoy a decent pvp game,
which is a good team based tactical multiplayer
shooter.

But if you want that and much more, get arma, join broma.
Show up for operations whenever you have the time or
play arma on 1000s of public servers or try out one of
35k scenarios on steam workshop to play by yourself.

Create your own scenarios. Multiplayer game modes from
RP to capture the hill deathmatch. Try out zeus, in which
one player creates the scenario on the fly for other players.
Try out mods like ACE3(advanced combat realism) which
adds features like realistic bullet ballistics which simulate
Magnus effect (spin drift) Coriolis effect and Eötvös effect (Earth rotation).
You would literally have to take account earths rotation to make
a perfect shot.

Don't like the way the guns sound? Download a sound mod!
Don't like the guns? Download more guns! Enjoy playing barbie
with 1000s of uniforms, vests, helmets and weapons?
Enjoy maps that are 100s of square kilometers each, compared
to 2x2 4x4 in squad where the average map size is 3 square km.
Want to see a fight between 1000s of units? Want to take part of
that fight as a attack heli pilot, a tank gunner, a jet pilot, an artillery
operator or a mare rifleman...

Get arma, it can be fun, but you must enjoy sandbox games.


If you rather the experience be mouthfed to you with no customization,
you could just play squad, enjoy the vision of the squad developers
and hop in and out for a few hours every day.

You can jump into any serve on Squad and have a fun time with a lot of teamwork. Arma requires a bit more effort to find the right game

ArmA is a sandbox more than it is a game, if that makes any sense. You other like minded people to extract fun out of it, but if you have that it can be an experience like no other. Also has a shitload of mods so you can do whatever kind of war simulation you want.

Squad is a far more narrow in focus game that aims to replicate (and eventually replace) Project Reality. It is a PvP game through and through, and its much easier to have fun playing with pubs, although I still recommend having some friends with you.

Also people that argue that one is better than the other are morons. The games are too different in scope and intent to make that a viable comparison.

Squad keeps getting better. This iteration of arma is on the way down.

Arma is a sandbox as other posters have said. As you can see from other posters in thus thread you have to share that sandbox with some overbearing characters to make a game of it.

Squad has a lesser degree of enforced socialisation with, gor lack of a better word, autists who force you to intergrate into their social lives to get anywhere near satisfying gameplay in arma.

Squad is essentially ARMA lite, until the modding community picks up. Give it a year and it'll have ACRE and ponies.
