My PC is fucking amazing. Is it worth taking that VR dive? I'm torn between Rift and Vive, leaning towards Vive because, from what I've heard, the overall experience is just better, but even then I'm apprehensive because I'm sure that an updated version with new controllers will be shipping soon.

Help me anon. Please.
>>
>>385084561
Both headsets are practically the same. It would make sense to get the Rift since it's half the price of the Vive.
>>
Why the hell would you give money to facebook and zenimax of your own free will?

Vive is the only moral choice between the two
>>
>>385084838
Why would it matter who you're giving money to if you're gonna pay less for a similar product?
>>
>>385085496
So you'd be fine with giving your money to DAESH and funding terrorism directly so long as you got your dumb toy on sale?
>>
>>385085737
>buying a device owned by Facebook is directly funding terrorism
>>
>>385084561
VR is just a shitty meme, at its current stage its fucking worthless. You can't even use the heavy ass VR goggles for more than 10 minutes without getting sick. And even with a fully kitted out VR room you constantly trip over cables and disconnect your rig. The motion controllers are also shit, they barely even function. Every game feels the same, and controls are wonky as shit. Playing a VR game is like playing a shitty game through the eyes and limbs of a fucking retarded 12-year old blind kid. DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE. ANY OF IT. VR IS PURELY A FAD BEING FED BY YOUTUBERS AND SOCIAL MEDIA. VR IS NOT THE FUTURE OF GAMING.
>>
>>385085930
This is someone who doesn't own VR, don't listen, shits fun
>>
>>385085930
>heavy ass VR goggles
Stopped reading there. I already know for sure you haven't tried a Rift or Vive before.
>>
>>385085879
So you admit it does matter who you're giving your money to?

Which brings us full circle: why would you willingly give money too zenimax and facebook?
>>
Get Serious Sam 1st and 2nd encounter VR if you do
Shit's fun
>>
>>385086093
>why would you willingly give money to a company to purchase their product

To receive said product
>>
>>385086093
Because I want the product. Stop being a fucking retard.
>>
>>385085930
why are you so mad to try something new?
>>
>>385084640
You get what you pay for.
>>
>>385084640
>t. Facebook

Get a Vive
You DO NOT want to miss roomscale

Room scale is literally the reason I use my Vive
>>
>>385086264
Rift can literally do roomscale.
>>385086257
They were both the same price not too long ago. Your statement is retarded.
>>
>>385086264
I own an Oculus and have 3 sensors and have room scale, it's some vive fanatic meme to say there is no roomscale on Oculus
>>
>>385086154
>>385086210

So you'd happily buy the product from terrorists?

Which is it, idiots?
>>
>>385086000
>>385086083
I don't own A VR rig, but I have used them at conventions. They are fun for 10 minutes, then it just becomes a pain.
>>
>>385086385
I can't tell if I'm being goofed on or not
>>
>>385086385
It could go to funding SJWs and the Mafia for all I care.
>>
>>385086435
I guess it's not for you then, I enjoy using mine all the time and there's no pain involved, just wasn't sure why you were so against it
>>
>>385086320
>Your statement is retarded.
How so? Rift was overpriced and no one was buying them, so they had to lower the price.

Augmented reality > stupid VR
webm fucking related
it would also be great if these fucking headsets offset eye problems like nearsightedness or farsightedness, but no, muh gayming
>>
>>385086456
You're the goof flip-flopping on whether or not it matters who exactly you're giving your money to
>>
>>385086596
>no one was buying them, so they had to lower the price
I guess the same applies to consoles too since they drop in price all the time.
>>
>>385086670
i don't care who the money goes to, I never claimed to. Give it all to Anita I don't care, just gimme the dream goggles
>>
>>385086617
That looks extremely useful because we all have ADHD and need 100 tabs of Chinese cartoon porn open at the same time. Slit your wrists
>>
>>385086264
what are some good roomscale game then?
>>
>>385084561
If you have the money for an expensive gimmick then go for it. My brother bought a vive, it's pretty amazing when you first try it out but the games just aren't that great. I'm waiting for some industry polarizing VR release that will make VR worth playing, something you can put more than 15 minutes into.
>>385085930
This anon is lying, you don't ever trip over cables, the controllers are extremely accurate, and unless you get motion sickness playing other games you probably won't have problems with VR.
>>
>>385086435
How did you make the claim that it unplugs rigs in a VR'd out room if you've never played it at anything but conventions? Dumb troll is dumb.
>>
>>385086769
Next time follow the reply chain or fuck off you gormless smeg.
>>
>>385086762
It does. Guess what? Console hardware is shit.
>>
>>385084561
I actually owned a Vive so I'll fill you in with my no bullshit opinion. I'd wait. I returned mine because, even though it was a lot of fun, 800 smackaroonies for the experience I was getting on my payroll was just too steep, plus it's very exhausting to wear for an extended amount of time. I've also tried the Oculus and it doesn't feel as comfortable and feels harder on the face, hence those memories images with the red imprints on the face, and there's also a noticeable gap in the nose area so you'll be seeing the floor fairly frequently, but otherwise gives a similar experience. Room scale is a big deal, so if you had to choose, the jump to Vive is worth it.

But overall, just wait. I feel like we're overdue for a revision and the potential for a display quality increase is something you do NOT want to pass up.
>>
>>385084561
>summary
Rift is the obvious choice now considering the price.
Get Vive if you want a better experience with future upgrades.
I haven't tried the Rift, I have had the Vive ever since they first came out though (don't have the revised new lighter version).

Vive cons
>touch is more compact and lighter than vive wands
>Vive wand tactile grips suck
>stock headstrap is shit, too much weight on face
>Vive wands lack finger tracking with the exception of the trackpad for your thumb.
>costs far more as of the time of writing
>does not include rigid headstrap out of the box. Need to buy deluxe audio strap $100
>lacks integrated audio out of the box, need to fumble with earphones. Need to buy deluxe audio strap $100

Vive pros
>Occulus lacks a front facing camera, this can be handy on Vive you just double tap system menu button.
>Vive lighthouse is better than rift in my opinion since it only needs to be plugged into power, it does not connect to PC making it easier to setup in your room at opposite corners for minimal tracking loss without USB3.0 extension cord spaghetti.
>Vive only needs a single USB2.0 port, rift needs multiple USB3.0 ports depending on how many cameras you are using (1,2,or 3) along with the touch controllers(uses USB2.0?).
>TPCast module for wireless play, no more cable going to PC
https://youtu.be/Z-CWz8nAFgs?t=232
>Valve knuckles controller upgrade, far better finger tracking than touch, fits like a glove but still has trigger and touchpad.

No

Just save your money. VR is nothing without physical feedback and we aren't advanced enough yet to produce that en masse. So just grab a hooker and do what you were probably going to do with the VR with them instead.

this is the only game that's ever looked like it was actually worth getting a headset for, can anyone confirm if its gone anywhere or perpetual early access?
