Gameplay looks pretty mediocre for a platformer. 2D stuff looks automated and uninspired, like it's trying to be Donkey Kong Country style platforming but missing what made those games fun (nevermind the fact the 2D sections barely resemble the Genesis games). The 3D sections look like race track corridors with not much to do. Even Crash Bandicoot has more interesting corridor levels.

People will eat it up though because it's hammy, has that edgy soundtrack and appearance of a grimdark story, and has the character creation thing.

Not really. The Adventure games were extremely flawed. It's just nobody cared back then because 3D Sonic was a new thing. There's a cheesy charm to them but I wouldn't call it better.

This is honestly going to go right into the bin of the worst Sonic games like Shadow, Lost World, Boom ETC. I played this at E3. There is NOTHING special about it at all. It is not technically impressive and the level design is some of the most bland and boring I have ever seen in a 2D platformer.

adventure 2 still has my fave 3D sonic gameplay. boost gen feels pretty brainless (aside from colors but that has its own problems - 'puzzles' that make you grind to a halt).

This game sounds like shit, at least even if its bad most Sonic games have great soundtracks, but this one just sounds bad.
