The original game was far more challenging and did not let you cheese everything the way the "updated" versions do.

Quickening chains were neutered by the damage cap and by costing MP to use, weapons were weaker and characters leveled up far slower. And you couldn't just hold down a speed-up button and grind levels for free on autopilot at a ridiculous pace while watching Netflix.

Not to mention Zodiac age lets every character be TWICE as powerful as they could in the already easy original IZJS, without the enemies being buffed up to compensate.

Voice quality has indeed improved though. People sounded like they recorded their lines on bad microphones in the original due to sound compression. The audio is been cleaned up dramatically in the HD rerelease.

I think they did indeed try to touch up the voice quality but it is still pretty bad. One line that always struck me as funny (do to the amount of times I had to listen to it because of dying) was Fran's line when fighting demon wall

I did l99 Red Chocobo because I needed Ribbons to fight Archaeoaevis, who are insanely overpowered in IZJS. I figured it was a good move since I also need Gemsteel and High Arcana, and got lucky to get 3 of each from the 3 Lv99 Red Chocobos that I killed.

The whole thing several hours, sure, but then again, so would farming for Gemsteels and High Arcana.

Do people actually have trouble with this game? Your only excuse for most of the main game is just after the first time you go through the sandseas, assuming you don't use the spoonfed item that neuters that boss. Maybe it's just bias because I've beaten it 7 times and know all the patterns, I guess, it just feels kind of ridiculous that people can actually die to shit in this game, especially on a version that has most of the added effect of extra nodes from the first version AND the damage cap removal from the second AND no spell queue to bottleneck your output by a fuckload.

I killed Yiazmat in the original FF12 with one of my party members using a high end gun with dark shot because it was one of the only dark element equips I had and everything else didn't do nearly enough damage so they're pretty good if you have the matching ammunition. I gave Fran a gun with silence shot and she keeps most monsters from fucking me with spells (REALLY helped out in this fight, pic related.)

The Zodiac Escutcheon chest in Barheim was removed in IZJS. So was the stupid Zodiac Spear condition of not opening certain chests. Both can be obtained in other ways instead.

So my current party is:

Vaan - Shikari/Monk
Balthier - Machinist/Uhlan
Fran- Archer/Red Mage
Basch - Knight/Foebreaker
Ashe - Time Mage/Bushi
Penelo - White Mage/Black Mage

I kinda wanted to go with canon jobs to see how well it fares against the later marks and trial mode, but I'm realizing that I made 2 big mistakes.
1. Basch is slow as fuck since without espers he only has 1 swiftness. I haven't gotten the espers to give him the last 2 yet, and since I don't know what they unlock on other boards, I'm not even sure if he'll get them.

2. I really really fucked up by making my white mage and black mage one person. Magic is was stronger than I thought and I can't heal and do decent magic damage at the same time now.

It's a good thing I made a backup save when you get to choose a job for Vaan. I'll change some things around next time. Any ideas for jobs for my second run?

Never, you're playing the easymodo version so you're always going to be drastically overpowered.

A couple of optional fights at the very end may still be somewhat tricky, but face it if you want the game as a whole to be a challenge you shouldn't be playing the babby version.

You literally activate the pedestals on one side, go activate the pedestal further in on that side. Activate the pedestals on the other side, activate the pedestal further in on that side. Close the sluice gates so the middle part has no water and go there. It's much simpler than it looks it you pay some attention. Now for the Crystal.. just use a map. They designed that area so you'd have to draw a map, like old games but fuck if anyone's got time for that nowadays.

This actually did annoy me. It I think at a very late stage they realized the spells were too strong against certain enemies like bombs and didn't have the time to rebalance so they just removed them or something.
