Just so you know, there reason this pattern exists is because reviews rate what's popular higher. Dark Souls was released and was kind of unknown at first, so it got 89 which might be considered fair. Then the popularity exploded and hype was building up to the sequel and, since reviewers don't actually have any taste or ability to assess quality, they rated it higher. Then they realized people were disappointed in the second one and thought it was worse than the first. Bearing this in mind they rated the third one lower again.
